“You’re going to be a knockout.” Miguel grins. “You have sharp cheekbones and perfect eyes. Mr. Conrad told me your mother used to be a fashion model, the famous Ariel Ortiz, yeah?”

I nod.

“You’ve inherited her features.”

“Thank you,” I murmur.

“Now, it’s time for Harley to do your makeup and hair.”

Several minutes later, she strokes foundation on my face and spreads eyeliner onto my eyes.

“Mr. Conrad must be really into you.”

“Why do you say that?”

“I’ve been his stylist for several years, and I never hear him speak about women the way he speaks about you.”

I cast her a curious glance. “What does he say about me, exactly?”

“I’m not allowed to tell you.”

“What’s the point of you bringing it up if you’re not going to tell me?”

“So you know you’re very special to him, and he cares deeply for you.”

I highly doubt it.

“How close are you and Atlas?”

“If you’re asking if we fucked, no, we haven’t. He’s like a brother to me.”

A couple of hours later, my hair is done in large curls, and Harley adds extensions to my hair, making it look fuller.

The doorbell rings, and Harley rushes to open the door. Miguel glances at me, and his eyes widen before he gives me a sugary smile.

“You look so beautiful. Men are going to throw themselves at you.”

My cheeks flame. Unless Harley made a miracle to make my scar disappear, I highly doubt it.

“If they even look in her direction, I’ll fuck them up.”

Harley places her hands on her hips. “Possessive much?”

“Only with what’s mine.” Atlas eyes me up and down, and a smile digs into his face. This is the second time he said that to me. And I want to tell him I’m not his, but I refrain from it. My heart gallops like a horse trying to break free as he holds a large box.

He licks his lips, then strokes my cheek. “You look exquisite.”

I shouldn’t want him to do dirty things to me, and we already crossed a line before so I’m going to keep this outing as professional as possible.

“Did you really buy me expensive-ass jewelry?”

There’s a glint in his eyes as he nods, then he opens the navy box. A necklace embedded with diamonds and a sapphire in the middle winks at me.

“I can’t accept this, and I won’t. It’s too much, Atlas.”

“No, it’s not. You deserve beautiful things because you’re a beautiful person.”

Hot tears threaten to spill down my cheeks, and his words do things to my heart. He places the necklace around my neck, looping it together.
