“Thank goodness.” He padded over, wearing just his jeans.

“I though you said you’d had several cups this morning?” She scrambled the eggs and added the cheese.

“I did, but I need more to get through the afternoon.” He leaned against the counter, watching her. “Breakfast?”

“Eggs with cheese and toast. That’s about all I have. I need to go grocery shopping.”

“Works for me. Toaster?”

“Cabinet to your left.” She concentrated on the eggs while Gabriel made the toast. It was like they were back in college and they cooked at his apartment.

Dani set two plates of eggs on the table and filled two glasses with water before sitting down. Gabriel joined her. They didn’t talk much as they ate.

“This feels right,” Gabriel said when he finished.

“Us eating together?” She tilted her head as she watched him.

“Yes, but being together too.”

Dani hid a smile. It did feel right. But after what he said last night, she wasn’t sure if she was ready to trust her heart to Gabriel once again. Who was she kidding? Her heart was already involved. “Last night was great, and I can’t wait for it to happen again.”

His eyes widened. “Last night, I went easy on you.”

“Oh.” While her ass still stung a little, she was surprised he’d gone easy on her.

“Dani, last night worked out, but it might not always work out like that.”

Her mouth dropped open. “It will if you talk to me.”

“There’s always a chance I will be asked to do another demo with a different impression paddle, and I won’t be able to switch out subs. I won’t hurt you.”

“You didn’t hurt me last night.” What the hell was wrong with him?

“I was being super careful.”

“With me or Hannah?” She crossed her arms over her breasts.

“In a way, both of you.”

“Why?” Was that why the impression on Hannah’s skin only lasted a few seconds?

“It didn’t feel right to me. It was a mistake to use you that way.”

“Really?” Dani took a breath to try and avoid a sarcastic comeback. “Why do you feel it was mistake?”

“It just was.”

She stared at him. She knew an excuse when she heard one. “I know I reacted badly in college, and I explained why.” Well, not everything.

“I expected you to safeword out last night.”

Dani’s mouth dropped open. “I didn’t.”

“No. But—”

“There is no but.” She wasn’t going to let him get away with this. “I enjoyed what you did last night, and you had to be aware of that.” Anger was growing within her.

He nodded, but his features tightened.
