Present

Funny enough, he ended up falling for me. He didn’t even realize I existed until that day, but he made sure I existed in his life every day after that.

“Prince is asking for you,” Kyro states, coming into our room. Before I leave the room, he grabs my hand. “We need to talk when you’re done.”

“Sure.” I pulled my hand away and walked out.

Walking into Prince’s room, he has a comic in his hand, and I narrow my eyes. He quickly throws the comic to the ground. “Hey, Mom.” He forces a cough.

“So, why did you fake being sick?” I ask.

“I didn’t have a choice. I heard that lady and Dad talking about them being together and if I were you, I would be jealous. So, I wanted to give you an excuse to leave.” My boy is smart.

He called Kyro his father. When did he decide to call him that? “Why did you call Kyro your father?” I ask.

“Well, he is my dad now. I mean,Papais my dad too, but so is Kyro. He’s a wonderful dad, too. I like him a lot and I think you do too.Papawanted me to make sure you were happy. So, be happy, okay? And if any other girls try to steal him, just beat them up. Don’t be afraid to claw their eyes out.”

I burst out laughing. “Ah, you are yourpapa’s child.”

“Even if you did it for the right reasons, you cannot lie to me. So, no comics for three days.” I reprimand.

Prince nods, “I will pay the price…”

“Good boy.” I pet his head and he nuzzled into my hand.

I give him a kiss goodnight and walk back to my room. Kyro is sitting on the sofa in our room in his dress pants, although his shirt is gone. He turns around and looks at me. “Reyna, please don’t think that seeing Maeve again makes anything different.” Kyro states as he unbuckles his belt.

“It makes no difference to me.” I say, “Why would you ever think I would feel threatened by another woman? Do you think that low of me? Just because I don’t look like her doesn’t mean I think less of myself.”

Kyro’s eyes are pleading when he looks at me. “No, I don’t think any of that.”

“Then why are you bringing it up?” I glare.

He looks stumped at what to say. “Ivan was your husband, a man you loved deeply. As much as I want to believe it, I fear I will never be enough.” He confesses. “We are getting married soon. I’m going to marry you and I want you to marry me and be happy that you did.”

I walk up to him and kiss those perfect lips. “I told you I’m not going anywhere, dummy.” I hum. Flicking this frightening mobster in the head. “You need to have more faith that I won’t leave you. I may not love you just yet, but one thing I can promise you is that I will be here.”

“I want to.” He whispers, pushing his head against my own. “I want to sofuckingbad.”

“So, trust me.” I could feel his breath on my lips, like the gentle touch of a winter wind.

He doesn’t answer. I look into his eyes and wonder how a man who is this gorgeous is begging to not be left behind. His mother and Maeve meant that much to him.

The sadness in his eyes is so palpable that it’s hard to be around him without feeling the weight of it.

I tried to change the subject. “Does this still hurt?” I touch his bandages. I can’t imagine having a gunshot wound.

“It’s nothing.” He scoffs coolly.

I roll my eyes, “I bet you cry when you shower, but sure.”

Kyro crosses his arms. “Those fucking Irish bastards need to be taken out soon. There’s going to be more security here and I don’t want to home-school Prince, but if I can get to the Irish, I might have too soon.” He sighs.

“If it comes to it, Prince will understand. Besides, he hates other children anyway, so he might want to be homeschooled.” I laugh.

Kyro nods as his arms unravel, and he takes off his dress pants and underwear. “Come, take a shower.” He yawns.

“I think I’m going to eat first and shower after.” I yawn myself.
