And maybe so should I.

How the fuck was I already addicted to this woman’s smile? Willing to do whatever the hell I needed just to catch a flash of it.

Like we hadn’t just met a few hours ago.

Like it wasn’t three in the morning.

Like we hadn’t just gone on some rescue mission where I could have ended up having the shit beaten out of me.

Was I really just about to drop her off at her home and that be it?

I reached for her chin, tugging on it gently and pulling her mouth to meet mine. The best part was when she kissed me, she didn’t stop smiling. It was slow and soft, and when I pulled back, that sweet, stunning grin was still there.

“Jesus Christ,” I muttered to myself before gently guiding her legs inside the vehicle and shutting the door. Simon chuckled softly as he rounded to the driver’s side. “You’re paid to shut your mouth,” I told him sternly over the bonnet of the car.

He stopped instantly, but the knowing smile remained. “Consider my mouth shut, sir.”

Other than Cassidy giving Simon their address and a few directions, the car was dead silent until we pulled up outside their building. I climbed out of the passenger seat, and the girls piled out of the back and onto the curb. Aspen headed straight for the door to the apartment building with her head down.

Cassidy stood next to me, both of us watching her rush inside. “She’s embarrassed. We both thought he was a good guy,” she explained with a sigh, her body curling in on itself. “You never know.”

“Sounds like you do know.”

Her head bobbed. “I found out the hard way.” She reached for the hem of my hoodie, but I grabbed her hand and shook my head. “Keep it.”

She let out a soft laugh and pointed to her chest and the logo printed across it. “This is a Gucci hoodie.”

I leaned back against the car. “Consider it me repaying you for what you spent on me last night.”

“The pizza?” she asked with a frown.

“Yeah.”

“Drake—”

“It was good pizza,” I cut her off, finally sliding out behind her and placing my hands on her shoulders, forcing her to walk the few steps toward the building before I reluctantly let her go. “Get inside. It’s cold.”

“It’s really not with thisGuccihoodie on.” She spun around but continued to walk backward, her eyebrows raised as if she knew her constantly arguing was getting to me. “I’ve never felt anything like it, so thick and warm—”

“Cassidy…” The low growl of my warning had her back straightening a little, and she pulled her lip in between her teeth. “Go inside.”

If she had said no, that would’ve been all I needed to pick her up and carry her back to the car, not sure if I’d ever fucking let her leave.

But when her lip popped free, and she swallowed hard and nodded, I knew I wasn’t the only one feeling torn. “I better make sure Aspen’s okay.”

“She could probably do with a friend,” I agreed. “Good night, Cassidy.”

She reached back, grabbing for the handle and turning it. “You can call me Cassie, you know,” she added quickly before slipping inside and calling back over her shoulder. “Good night, Drake.”

Then she was gone, disappearing up the staircase.

We didn’t exchange numbers.

Or even last names.

But I guess maybe sometimes it’s best to leave it up to the universe.

It threw us together last night in a way I couldn’t have predicted.
