Not like a man who controlled hundreds of lives.

A man who had destroyed hundreds of lives.

“Please,” he wheezed, and I knew it wouldn’t be long before the smoke took over and choked him to death.

But that wasn’t enough for me.

I wanted him to know the pain he’d inflicted on others.

I wanted him to feel it and regret everything as it slowly took over.

I took a couple of steps back and walked around the glass case on the floor. His eyes grew wide as I raised his cane in both hands, lifted it high above my head and slammed it down onto the glass. “No,” Andrew screamed as it shattered under the blow, sending glass fragments flying. “What have you done.”

I tossed the cane to the side, backing up slowly and climbing onto the bed. There was no time left to wait around, so I left it to fate. I climbed up on the headboard and hefted my body through the window, thankful my leather was spread across the frame to protect me from several sharp shards that poked me as I squeezed through the small space.

I didn’t look back.

Not even when I heard his screams.

That was enough for me.

Instead, I simply took a breath, pulling it deep into my lungs.

It was fresh.

Untainted.

And I was going to fucking enjoy it.

“Hawk!” I looked over, seeing my brothers standing on the lawn, waving me toward them. I let my shoulders relax when I saw Missy sitting on the grass, her knees bent and her head between them, taking long breaths, in and out.

Grabbing my colors, I grasped them tightly as I shuffled along the small ledge and down onto the plastic patio roofing. I tossed my cut to Bishop before easing my body down over the side, dropping the last few feet onto the grass. My feet had barely hit the ground before I rushed over to Missy, dropping to my knees and reaching for her face.

I held her face in my hands, lifting her eyes to meet mine.

They were bloodshot, and each breath you could hear was still more than a little rattly.

But she was here.

Alive.

“Hey, baby.”

She smiled. It was only small, but fuck, it was like someone had lit up the night sky.

“Hey, Swayze.”

“We got Kadey, baby,” I said.

Her bottom lip instantly dropped, and she launched herself into my arms. I lifted her off the ground, and her soft sobs broke my fucking heart, though I knew they were because she was happy. It still hurt to see her this way.

She pulled back suddenly, her eyes wide. “Grace! Where is she?”

“Blue drove her to the hospital,” Bishop told her. “He just called, said they made it, and she was doing okay. They were taking her to labor and delivery.”

Sirens and lights lit up the night sky.

And for the second time tonight, we were about to answer a million fucking questions.
