She smiled. “Yeah, I think we’re okay.”

“If we don’t want to be late, we’d better get going. Also, my mother brought a new outfit for Foxy for the wedding. He’ll match Laila.”

She pushed her hands underneath the covers and checked around her mid-section. “Where are my panties?”

“You took them off.”

“Oh, my God. I think I had a wet dream. Sixty-eight percent of women have wet dreams.”

“You quote stats when you’re nervous. Don’t be. By tonight, you won’t need wet dreams.”

Her eyes popped out like two saucers. “I’m going to your brother’s wedding. I didn’t even bring a proper dress. Why didn’t I bring a proper dress?”

“Relax, Laura. Anything you wear will be fine. It’s casual.”

“Silvers don’t do casual.”

I laughed. “Yes, we do. Now get dressed. We’ll be in the family room for breakfast.”

I kissed her once more and left with Foxy. He held my hand, hopping across the glass bridge with a giggle. God, he was such a good kid.

My father set Laila down and she ran into my side. “Daddy.” I lifted her high in the air and Foxy tugged on my shirt. I crouched to the ground, secured him in my other arm, and stood up with both kids.

“Well, isn’t this a nice picture? How’s Laura?” my mother asked.

“Getting over jet lag.”

“I just spoke with Tiffany and Kensi. It’s snowing back home. They’re taking the kids for a sleigh ride.”

“Have they left yet?”

“No, she’s waiting for your call.”

“All right. Thank you.” I set the kids down in the play area and excused myself to make a call to my daughter.

“Good morning, sweetheart,” I said, after Tiffany handed her the phone.

“Mommy’s taking me on a sleigh to see Santa, and she says he has a big bag of toys this year because kids with super livers get special gifts.”

“Is that so?”

“And we’re going to feed Rudolph, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen.”

“You’re not giving them your breakfast, are you?”

“No, Mommy made me a big breakfast because other mothers can’t cook.”

“What?” I’d never seen Tiffany cook in her life.

“My mommy’s the best, and there’s no other mommy I want in the world.”

Wonderful. Tiffany must have been whispering into Kensi’s ear. Her insecurity unnerved me. I had yet to figure out how to introduce Laura to her daughter without my ex losing her shit.

I missed Kensi, but it sounded like she was having a wonderful time.

“You make sure you eat all your veggies to keep up with that super liver.”

“I will, Daddy. I love you.”
