She fidgeted.

“How’s your leg?”

“Good..”

She bit her lower lip and held the teeth there, scanning the crowd.

“Are you trying to ask me what I think you’re trying to ask me?”

“I have a new set from Aunt Mary to try—”

I stood up, disregarded my crutches, and lifted Grace into my arms. Searing pain shot down my leg and up my spine, but nothing would stop me from seeing her new outfit.

“What are you doing?” she screamed.

“Taking you upstairs.”

“You’re injured, and we have guests.”

I shut her up with a lingering kiss. She peeled her mouth away from mine, relaxing.

“And you’re my Queen.”

HER EPILOGUE

I swung back and forth in the egg chair, watching a pair of teal and yellow macaws clean their wings. They were perched on a tree branch that extending over our eco-lodge. A light breeze blew through our home, carrying the smell of passing rain. Droplets trickled down the leaves, making a sound like it was still raining. I loved the sound of rain. It had taken six months to organize the paperwork, set up the additional salon space, and hire new staff, but it was worth it. Frankie would manage the business while I took time off for maternity leave. We’d flown to Costa Rica two months ago, and my due date was now only one week away.

My nose wiggled, and my stomach rumbled. Hunter rushed around the kitchen making breakfast. He was still wearing the shorts from his swim out in the rain…and nothing else. My gaze drifted from the macaws to his beautiful, strong body, remembering how skinny he had been at eighteen when he came to fix my bike. The kid who saved toads from my pool had grown into a beautiful Tarzan.

He looked up and his mouth curved, sinking his dimple. Arousal stirred through my body.

“I made omelets, Belgian waffles, vegan sausages, and there’s a bowl of fresh fruit on the table. Green tea with your breakfast?”

“Tea would be lovely, but I’m not that hungry.”

“Five minutes ago you were asking for burgers and steaks.”

“I’m pregnant, and I’m eating for two.”

“You’re a vegetarian. It’s why we settled on vegan sausages with other options for breakfast.” He motioned with his hand.

The hormones hit me like a train, made a U-turn, and the floodworks started.

“It’s not my fault my taste buds flipped upside down. I’m craving turkey breast slices and salami sticks. I remember my father eating them when I was a kid, and they smelled so good.”

“So youarehungry?”

“No, I said I… I… I don’t know what I want. I barely slept because the baby kept kicking and pushing on my ribs. And my bladder feels like it has space for three teaspoons at a time.”

The baby kicked, and I winced in pain. “Ouch, not so hard. I swear, if I push out a little caveman or a bear, I want a re-do.”

He dropped the spatula and hurried my way, crouching in front of me. He cupped my hands in his. “I don’t think that’s how it works, and I’m so sorry you’re uncomfortable. What can I do to make you feel better?”

“Uncomfortable? Hunter, I look like I’m having triplets, and I know we’re only having one.”

“Why don’t we do something relaxing?”

“We just had sex…”
