“Stop calling himit. He’s from Allie’s branch and works undercover. He’s family, and he needs a cut.”

He needed more than a cut. The man needed a miracle only I could perform.

“This assignment is from the Silvers? ” I poked a finger into his bulky arm. It bounced off his coat and the steely body underneath. Dirt crumbled to the floor.

I looked back up. “Is he dangerous?”

“Very dangerous.” Emma replied.

“You just said he was safe,” I said through gritted teeth.

He twitched again, and I jumped.

“Okay, he’s not dangerous.” She backed to the door. Like I said, Emma always won.

“He can’t stay here, Ems. This is a prestigious salon, and I can’t afford another scandal.”

Truth was, I could afford it, because all publicity was publicity. But I would not allow a man with a bird’s nest on his face to pass to the second floor.

“He also needs a shave.” She made her puppy face again. She was lucky she was cute, and I loved her like the sister I had never had. My younger brother Cash often took private jobs for Silver Securities, but I had no clue what the hell he did. My twin brother Nick and the two older brothers, Axel and Ace, owned a criminal law firm and a chain of strip clubs. Thank goodness I’d inherited my Aunt Mary’s creative side and opened a beauty salon: away from chaos, criminals, and assholes my brothers put behind bars.

“You know, if it were me, I’d just shave him everywhere, if you know what I mean.”

I knew what she meant.

“Maybe wax him where necessary.” She circled her hand around his groin. “That ought to bring him back, don’t you think?” She winked.

The caveman shifted away, and I rolled my eyes, dejected. “I won’t hurt you.”

“So that’s a yes? Great!” Emma squealed.

I took a whiff. “When was the last time he washed? A century ago?”

“I'm not sure if I can give a time frame.”

“Ems, I don’t have scissors with blades sharp enough to conquer the forest on his face.” I pulled her outside the front door. The caveman stayed in his spot. “And I’d have to order at least a gallon of wax. Besides, this is not a charity salon. And even if it were, I couldn’t just letitparade among all my clients.”

“I already told you: Silver Securities is paying for it all. Mr. Silver said whatever the charge, bill him.”

“Your uncle?”

“My cousin.”

“Which one?”

“Doesn’t matter.” She waved her hand. “I gotta go. I owe you big time, but I have this thing with this guy.”

“Oh, no! You’re not leaving me alone withhim, are you?”

She backed away.

“Grace, I’ll do anything. I promise.”

“Emma…” I warned.

“Love you so much, Gracie. You’re the best friend every girl should have.” Emma hurried to her illegally parked convertible Mercedes and hopped into the driver’s seat.

Shit!I glanced at the salon’s front window. The caveman peeked our way from behind a flowering eucalyptus. When I turned back to Emma, she pulled away and merged into traffic.
