“Hunter.” I pulled his hand away. “I… I can’t…anymore.”

He kissed the side of my temple. “Are you all right?”

“Just spent. Fuck, Hunter.”

“I thought we just did that. Hold on.”

He slowly withdrew, holding me steady, and I shut my legs tight.

“Are you trying to keep my sperm inside you?”

I shrugged a shoulder. “Maybe it’ll work.”

He shook his head and stepped underneath the waterfall again, pulling me along with him. The cold water soothed my burning body but did little to stop the constant ache for this man. We washed up and headed back to the towels and the tree house.

“Where’s the slab of meat you left?” I asked.

“In a cougar’s tummy.”

“You’re kidding.”

“No, I’m not. I wasn’t lying earlier.”

I whipped my head toward the tree house. “Are we going back now?”

He let out a chesty chuckle. “Yes, we’re going back.”

I hurried ahead with the flashlight and climbed the ladder like I was next on the cougar’s menu.

“What time is it?” I asked as I slipped on a nightshirt and shorts.

“Not time to get dressed.” He winked. “Take off that shirt.”

“Hunter—”

“I need to feel your body.” He pulled the sheets aside. “Take off the shirt and hop in.”

I shed my clothes and climbed up on the bed. He slipped in naked underneath the covers and lay down beside me. I settled at his side, resting my head over his arm and chest.

Clouds covered the moon, and Hunter turned off all of the lights. It was just us and darkness.

“Why can’t life be simple and we stay here?” I whispered.

“We could. I’ve lived here for five years.”

“What would we do?”

“I can think of a few things to keep you busy.” He tickled my ribcage, and I squirmed.

“I mean, what would we do for work?” I asked.

“If my account was empty, I would work. But it’s not, so we could retire.”

“Here?”

“Why not?”

“What would I do?”
