“Kali, stop that. There’s no need to scare her.” Hunter came up to the cat, and the animal brushed against his leg. “Drop the ladder. It’s fine.” He waved.

“Fine? There’s a cougar beside you.”

“And one up there.” He pointed to me. “I promise you’ll be okay. I planned on introducing you two anyway.”

“You want tointroduceme to a cougar? Are you crazy?”

“Kali’s been interested in you since the day you arrived.”

“Well, that makes me feel better.” I rolled my eyes. “I think I’d rather spend time with Chad Hartley.”

“Spit that out, Grace. Kali won’t hurt you. She knows you’re mine.”

The cougar roared.

“I call bullshit on that.”

“She’s not like other cats. I found her orphaned after poachers killed her mother, and I raised her. If she wanted to come inside the house, she already would have. She may be wild, but she’s loyal and trained. You wouldn’t be alive if she wasn’t. You’re safe. Come down.”

“I can’t.”

“Sure you can.”

“It’s not happening. Use the rope.”

I kicked down the loop near my foot, and Hunter’s shoulders slumped.

“Kali, leave. We’ll play later.”

The cougar disappeared into the jungle, and Hunter pulled himself up the rope without effort. His biceps bunched and the wet shorts clung to his skin. I shut the latch as soon as he entered and backed away from the exit. Water dripped down his legs, collecting on the floor. He gripped the waistband of his shorts, removed them, and walked past me. I followed him all the way to the washroom, watching his naked ass strain and tighten with each step. He hung the shorts on a rope between the two showers and turned around. My body flushed with heat.

“I was wrong about you. You’re not a caveman or a bear. You’re definitely Tarzan.”

CHAPTER 13

HUNTER

Bongo drums boomed and maracas shook as we arrived in the village. Mister G, the bride’s uncle, joined in, strumming his guitar. Grace hopped off the scooter and unwound the dress Abuela had left for her to wear.

“I look like Big Bird.” She swept her hands over the fabric. Her brown hair spilled out in waves over her chest. She hadn’t mentioned a hair dryer once, and the natural look brought out her eyes. For a split second, I could see the resemblance to the Hartleys, but then she smiled, and she was my Grace again.

“You look like a sunflower,” I said. “Absolutely gorgeous. And no one here knows who Big Bird is.”

“My arms are itchy.”

I smoothed my hands over the scratches Grace carried from the forest. Running through a jungle was never a good idea. Prey ran every day—and died.

“Abuela has an ointment. She’ll paste it over your arms, and it will heal by morning.“

“I’m still like a beacon for Kali.”

She looked back, glancing up, and I kissed her. “She protects the territory around our home. Also, my cougar is coming into heat and likely sticking her ass out to a stalking mate. A sunflower is the last thing on Kali’s mind.”

Her breath caught, and I inhaled her scent, tracing my fingers over her pulsing jugular. The sweet coconut and jungle aroma took me back to the tree house, arousing the urge to hitch up that yellow dress and fuck her again. My blood flow turned south, and I rubbed myself against her hip.

She moaned, taking my mouth again in a sensual kiss. Grace was in heat, just like Kali. Her breasts swelled, her nipples tinted, and her pussy leaked at my touch. She’d straddled me on the bed before we changed for the wedding, forcing us to skip breakfast. I rested my head against the pillow and watched her fuck me. She rolled over my dick like Aphrodite, squeezing her breasts and pinching her nipples. I came hard and fast, spilling inside her, and watched her mouth stretch into a satisfied smile. Guilt filled my chest every time I fucking orgasmed. Was I betraying her?

Someone whistled from near the house, and we pulled apart.
