I greeted Mrs. McCormick with a glass of champagne, and Emma showed her inside, where my family and staff had settled in.

“You look ravishing,” Hunter’s voice murmured from behind. He snaked his hands over my hips to my belly, like he was comforting our child. He nipped at my neck. Warmth spread through my veins.

“Not now, baby. Everyone’s looking.”

Baby.

Tonight was the night I’d tell him I was pregnant. It hadn’t worked out when I’d tried before, because Hunter couldn’t keep his uninjured hand off of me. He took me three times that night, and I couldn’t reject the kisses, fondling, and fucking. My hormones got the best of me, and I lost time to his mouth and his constant hard-on. It was incredible. We were incredible, and I couldn’t wait to tell him tonight, after the party. He kissed my cheek. The smell of his fresh aftershave messed with my head.

“I can’t blame them for looking. You’re the most beautiful woman here, my Queen.”

A loud bang sounded, and I jumped. “Oh, my God.”

“It’s okay, Grace. It’s only champagne.”

“Are you sure? It sounded like a gun.”

“I’m sure.”

“How much longer do I have to stand here?”

“I believe Mrs. McCormick was our last guest, so it’s time for the official tour.”

“And I don’t need to make a speech?”

“Frankie will thank all the guests and make sure everyone leaves with a goodie bag.”

I looped my hand through his hooked arm. We walked through the curtain of streamers, and everyone cheered. My family, neighbors, employees, and loyal clients waved silly pom-poms and whistled. Someone passed me a champagne glass, and while I didn’t want to make a speech, the moment felt too perfect.

“Thank you, everyone, for coming. Thank you for your support, for your love, support, and loyalty. I have the best team there is, and these renovations couldn’t have happened without you. I’m very grateful to Silver Securities for the safety upgrades. Frankie, you’ll forever be my right hand. None of this could have been possible without you. Now, I promised myself not to make a long speech, so I won’t. With that, please eat, drink, and have fun. Cheers!”

“Cheers!” the crowd chimed, and someone turned the music up.

I touched my mouth to the flute. The champagne barely skimmed my lips. “Okay, what’s this surprise I know you’ve been keeping?”

“Come. I hope you like it.” His breath smelled of a stronger alcohol than champagne.

“Were you drinking?”

“Just the champagne.” He lifted his glass.

Maybe it was just me.

We walked to the back of the salon and took the staircase to the lower floor with the main spa. A soft glow from a dozen candles kissed the air as we stepped into what I liked to call a rainforest.

“It’s a combination of Costa Rica and your gardens,” he said.

I paced along the silicone floor. Further in, the shade turned greener, reminding me of my gardens. I stepped over the silicone floor. Underneath, koi fish swam through a flowing stream, surrounded by lily pads and toads. The walls housed fresh plants, and the new waterfall feature near the showers flowed into the floor and underground.

“Was this your idea?”

“I can’t take all the credit. I had some input, but this is mostly Frankie’s doing.”

As if on cue, my partner in crime peeked out from behind a wall. “Do you like it?”

“This is beautiful, Frankie.”

I hugged my best friend hard as Hunter’s phone chimed.
