"You're an idiot."

Tate's voice had me turning, his forehead covered in sweat and eyes glaring fiercely. Brock was right next to him with an exasperated expression.

"Can we not do these runs after a practice of skating drills?" Brock demanded.

"She's going to fuck this up," I said, waving at the three of us. “Nothing tears apart a friendship faster than jealousy.”

"How?" Tate asked as he stood in front of me, not letting me run. "I thought we weren't doing this anymore. We don't shut each other out, dick."

"You're the king of that shit, don't come for me," I bit out.

He raised his eyebrows. "And you didn't fucking let me, did you?"

Fuck, he had me there.

"She's not just any girl. It's all of us or nothing," Brock said. That was how confident he was that she'd agree.

"So what, you hand over her lost dog and she falls into your bed?"

He looked furious at my words and his fists clenched at his sides. If I were anyone else I'd have a black eye right now.

"Don't fucking talk about her like she's some easy fuck. We all know she deserves better than to be treated like that."

Tate moved closer so his face was inches from mine. Frustration was now rolling off of him in waves.

"Tell me you don't want this."

"I don't," I lied.

"Liar," he said, calling me out. "You're scared. Of what?"

I deflated under his gaze and his blunt words. He had me figured out before I did.

"We're not going anywhere, Elias. Family doesn't do that," he growled.

"Promise?"

"Don't be stupid," he said, his way of saying he promised. He pulled me in for a quick, gruff hug then released me. "Get your ass back home."

"Fine," I sighed, exhausted now.

The walk back was completely silent and I felt like I had been through a battle. I was physically and emotionally exhausted, but relieved.

They said exactly what I needed to hear. That she wouldn't break up this friendship if she only wanted one of us. We had to be stronger than that and shove all jealousy aside.

"Did you get the dog?" I finally asked as we climbed the stairs to our apartment.

"We have an interview next Friday, they're closed until then for maintenance," Brock answered. "He's on hold for us, though. I offered to take him that day and prepaid saying she could take it as a donation if he didn't want to come with us."

"You're already whipped and she hasn't given you a second glance yet," I teased, feeling lighter than I did when I left.

"You didn't see them together serving pizza then," Tate said, eyes flaring with heat. "She wants him."

We started to go to our separate rooms but I paused, not looking back at them.

"I'm sorry for running. I just don't want to fuck this up. You guys mean too much to me," I said softly.

"Family," Tate reminded me before closing his door.
