"She's usually not friendly," he admitted. "Sadie, get up, honey."

"No," she said. "He doesn't mind." The look she gave Tate had me cracking up, as if she were daring him to argue.

He just gave the dad a shrug and didn't fight it as she took the puppy, snuggling it close. The way he was just as gentle with her as he was with the dogs had me wondering if he'd be a good dad. Kids were something I'd always wanted but I stopped thinking about it as things with Luke went downhill. After that, I'd kind of just lost hope.

Now... I wasn't so sure.

Our relationship was nowhere near ready to discuss that.

"You want to go home with me, don't you, sweet girl?" she cooed. The beagle gave a little yip and started tugging at her sleeve, her giggles and the puppy’s adorable growls had the dad scooping them both up.

"Guess we've got a winner. Who do I talk to?"

"Glad to hear it, she's a sweetheart," Tate said, waving Linda over. "We've got another home, Linda!"

"Oh good!" she cried out, sweeping the happy family away. Tate took the opportunity to pull me into his lap.

"There, that's better," he said, nuzzling his head into my now-red hair and breathing in deeply. "I love the smell of you."

"You always know how to make a girl feel good," I said, resting my back against his chest and relaxing for a minute. I'd been on my feet getting things set up since six this morning.

"She was adorable," he mused. "Maybe we could handle one of those?"

"Puppies?" I asked, my heart stalling for a second and needing to hear him clarify.

"No, kids," he said quietly. "I'd always been against it since mine had fucked me up. But I think we could be good parents."

"We could," I said, letting him paint us a picture.

"The apartment is big enough for now, but we've been talking about renting it out and finding a place close by. Roscoe needs a yard and we aren't bachelors anymore."

I froze, stunned. It had only been weeks, was he seriously talking about babies and moving.

For me?

Turning in his lap I looked at him, seeing how serious he was. Humor danced in his hazel eyes.

"Surprised?"

"More than a little," I admitted. "You really want all that... with me?"

"Yes." There was no hesitation in his answer and I blinked rapidly to avoid tears forming as warmth spread through me. They made me feel so wanted and desired, now loved. How could things change so fast and be so perfect?

The broken pieces in me wanted to ask when the other shoe would drop.

That part of me was a bitch and I shoved her away.

"We're all a little broken in some ways, Macy. That doesn't mean we can't figure out how to handle that trauma and grow together, right?"

I wasn't sure if I said it out loud or if he just knew what I was thinking, but either way his words settled something in me.

"I want all that, too," I finally said.

His answering smile was brilliant and he leaned in and kissed me hard, not caring who was around to see it.

"Hey now, what's going on over here?" Brock asked as he came up, trying not to trip on the bulldog puppy nipping at his heels. "Why are we being all lovey-dovey over here?"

"Macy wants to have our babies."
