Nova’s laughter died down, and Ben’s heart began to thrash as Nova took careful, deliberate steps toward him. “That was rough, wasn’t it?”

Ben nodded, swallowing thickly. “It wasn’t great. Why do they keep taking my phone?”

“I don’t know, sweetheart, but it’s really not cool.” Nova stopped a few inches away, then gently laid his hands on Ben’s hips. His fingers dug in, just enough for Ben to really feel his touch. “Are you traumatized?”

“No. I’ve been worse, but I’ve been better.”

Nova laughed softly and shook his head, then leaned in and pressed a firm, hot kiss to the corner of Ben’s mouth. “I can’t wait to make it up to you.”

“We could just stop the madness, and you can make it up to me now,” Ben whispered, feeling wild and a little bold. He brought one hand up and curled his fingers around the back of Nova’s neck.

“Two more to go,” Nova murmured, speaking against the side of Ben’s jaw. He wasn’t kissing, but it was still one of the most intimate feelings Ben had ever experienced. “We can be strong for two more dates.”

“I don’t know,” Ben said. His voice was tense with want, his cock hard, his heart still racing. “Last night by my car was…”

“I know,” Nova said.

Ben shook his head. “You have no idea. I went home, got in the shower, and—” He stopped himself. He didn’t want to cross that line until he was sure Nova was ready and wanted him to.

“And what?” Nova asked, his voice a little shaky. He dug his fingers into Ben’s hips harder.

Ben shook his head. He couldn’t say it. He was feeling brave, but he wasn’t feeling reckless. He was terrified that in the next two days, something could change, and he’d be forced to live with this moment as their last moment forever.

Nova let out a trembling breath, then pulled back and met Ben’s eyes. “Go home.”

Ben startled. “Oh. O-okay. Yeah, no. I get that you don’t want me to—”

Nova cupped Ben’s cheek, interrupting his flailing. “No. Listen to what I’m trying to say. Go home, Ben. And do what you did last night. Only…”

“Only?”

“Only call me,” Nova said. He glanced over at the desk, then looked back into Ben’s eyes. “I’m going to leave. I live three minutes away, so I’ll be at home. Waiting.”

All of the air rushed from Ben’s lungs, and he struggled to inhale. “I was in the shower. I can’t call you in the shower.”

Nova laughed, his cheeks going a little pink, and he closed his eyes. “Mm. That’s something I want to see in person. And soon. But tonight, just go home, get undressed, and get into bed. And then call me.”

Ben was petrified, but he was also feeling needy and horny and seconds from exploding. He knew if he stood there any longer, he’d beg Nova to end this ridiculous little game and just be with him. And, in all reality, Nova probably would. But Ben damn well knew that would end with some regret, and he couldn’t risk that.

He needed them both to be there together on their own terms, and he could be patient.

“Promise you’ll pick up?” Ben asked. “You won’t change your mind?”

Nova pinched his chin, then laid a firm kiss on his lips. “I won’t change my mind.”

“And this isn’t some fetish? Like, you’re not getting off watching me date other men?”

Ben expected Nova to laugh or even be insulted, but instead, he just smiled and shook his head. “No. I’m just afraid and completely irrational, but you’re worth the wait, and I want to prove that to you.”

That hit Ben like a physical blow, and he dropped his forehead to the top of Nova’s shoulders. “They won’t compare to you. They can’t.”

“They might,” Nova said.

Ben heard the sharpness of insecurity in his voice, so he pulled back and moved his hands up to cradle Nova’s face. “They can’t,” he repeated. “But we’ll do this your way. And I’ll call you soon.”

Nova nodded, then leaned in like he was going to kiss Ben again, but he pulled away at the last second. Ben felt the sting of it, bereft and damn near desperate to taste Nova again, but he was going to have him soon.

And nothing would be standing in their way.
