He’s practically vibrating in his seat. “Steal a plane. I’m still jazzed from the heist. I don’t want to go home yet.”

Not only does he want to steal a plane, he wants to do ittonight.

Impossible.

But—I’m also a little keyed up…

I narrow my eyes at him. “Do you even know how to fly a plane?”

“How hard could it be?”

“No,” I say adamantly, and because I feel it needs to be said again, “NO.”

His face falls.

I sigh. “What if…”

“Yes,” he says, his voice filling back up with excitement.

A crazy plan forms in my head, and instead of instantly dismissing it like I should, I turn to Jeb. “Leland Banks keeps his private jet in Memphis.”

“That’s close.” Jeb checks his watch. “We could be there by dinnertime.”

I nod. “We may not be able to fly the plane off into the sunset like you want to, but I’m pretty sure we can definitely make it disappear.”

“I could kiss you right now,” he says, making my mind go blank for a second. “But if I did, we’d never get to Memphis.”

I try to come up with a response, but all that comes out is a garbled mess. He doesn’t seem to notice. He puts the car in gear. “Come on, Eli.” He winks at me. “Let’s go steal a motherfucking plane.”

Chapter15

Jeb

Tennessee

We stole a plane.

And not just any plane. Leland Banks’ plane. The asshole behind Patriots Now, who thinks he can use his inherited, didn’t earn a fucking cent of it, billions to fund a revolution that excludes anybody who doesn’t look, walk, or talk like him.

AKA an asshole.

It doesn’t get any more legendary than that.

It took three days of me running cons and Eli hacking requisition orders and making paperwork vanish until, part by part, Leland Banks’ plane disappeared.

I wanted to stick around to see his reaction, but Eli put the kibosh on it. “No popcorn and sodas this time,” he said, putting his foot down. “Besides,” he said innocently, “I set up a video feed. We can watch Banks’ reaction from our hotel room and share it with Cash, Johnny, and Daisy.”

Fuck. Eli turns me on all the time, but crafty Eli just about does me in.

Now it’s almost six in the morning, and both of us have been awake since the day we decided to pull this job. As we walk into our hotel room, we both stop and watch the sun coming up from the suite’s large window.

After it’s officially a new day, I walk over to the window and pull the blackout curtains closed. “Come with me,” I order Eli, who looks at me with surprise but does as I ask.

He follows me to my bedroom, where I again pull the curtains closed. He shuffles his feet, not sure why he’s in my room.

Most nights, it takes hours for him to get to the point where he shows up to sleep in my arms. I’m too tired to wait, and I don’t want to chance that he’ll fall asleep before he winds himself up enough to come to me.

I plop down on the bed and open my arms. Eli just stands there looking at me with his huge, dark eyes.
