His mouth captures mine again, and hunger ricochets through me. I need more. I want him so badly I’m ready to jump out of my own skin with pure, unadulterated want. It’s as natural as breathing, lifting my legs to circle his waist. He presses me against the wall, the brick against my back a cool contrast to the raging heat flowing in my veins and setting my entire body on fire.

Then he angles his hips and his hardness nudges at mejust rightand I almost lose it right there, outside Veronica’s bar.

If I don’t get him inside me, I might actually die from unsatisfied lust.

I’ve never felt this way. Not with Blake, not with anyone. Because it’s more than lust. Luke is one of the best, most decent humans I’ve ever met.

“Luke! You out here, man?”

My libido comes to a screeching halt when the voice of one of my siblings belts into the air.

ChapterTwenty-Five

Luke

I drop Mindy’s legs, making sure she’s steady before taking a giant step back.

Jake rounds the corner, illuminated by the cone of light shining from the back of the building.

“People are waiting. Laila is out there alone mingling.” He pauses. “Why are you chilling in the pitch dark? Mindy, is that you?”

“We were just getting some air,” I say, surprised when my voice emerges without sounding like I’m about to expire from the sheer amount of desire coursing through my body.

Jake takes another step closer. “Right. Well, Luke, people are waiting to talk to you, and Mindy, you might need to answer some of these marketing questions, and isn’t this why we’re here, you weirdos?”

“We’ll be right there,” Mindy says.

Jake disappears. After a couple seconds, the backdoor shuts with a slam.

Mindy runs her hands through her hair, trying to flatten the wayward strands, then smooths down her dress over her hips.

We have to go back inside, but my body is on fire, and I can’t stop staring at Mindy and thinking about the softness of her lips, the curve of her hip under my fingers, the taste of her skin, the responsive little sounds she made that shot straight to my groin.

I cannot go in there with this raging erection. I need more than fresh air to cool down—I need a giant ice bath.

Sensing my . . . difficulties, Mindy squeezes my hand. “I’ll go in and let them know you’ll be right there. You have five minutes. Think about Granny Bea naked.”

Definitely a good boner killer.

I choke back a laugh, but damn if that doesn’t work.

A few minutes later, I’m back inside Veronica’s schmoozing with the crowd. I answer questions about my songs and my process and take photos with influencers and industry peeps. Throughout it all, my gaze keeps straying to Mindy. When she’s laughing with a group of businessmen in suits, when she’s taking a sip of water, or when she’s just walking across the room and existing, my gut tightens and I can barely focus through the haze of lust crowding my vision.

I go through the motions, making conversation and bantering to the best of my abilities. A lot of the questions revolve around Laila and any “relationship” between us. Both Mindy and Ursula advised us to play coy and basically respond with “no comment,” but it’s so misleading. Wrong even, especially after Mindy and I . . . my gaze locks with hers from across the room and I can’t look away.

“Later,” she mouths, and my skin grows tight with anticipation.

Is she trying to kill me?

Someone taps her on the shoulder, and she turns away, the spell broken.

Eventually the crowd thins, and security helps Laila and I make our escape out the back and into a waiting sedan.

I slide into the passenger seat, nodding to Jake behind the wheel. Laila gets in the back.

“Where’s everyone else?” I ask, but really, I only care about one person.

“Archer and Finley are waiting with Mindy. She and Ursula have some work to finish up before they can leave. I’ll come back after dropping off you lot to pick them up and head home.”
