“You had Julia’s help, didn’t you?”

“I’ll never tell.”

She sighed. “Is this real? Because I feel like breaking out in a Christmas song, and I’ve been told I’m the office grinch.”

“Ha. I’ve heard the same thing. That you’re the office grinch.” He laughed. “You know what? When my mom pulled me aside at that dinner we all shared?”

“Yeah?”

“She told me that I’d better not blow it, because I’d finally found a woman who could handle me.”

“I love your mom.”

“Now don’t get carried away.”

“And speaking of moms, mine’s been awfully quiet lately. Not one phone call about you or my dating life.”

“Oddly silent, hmm?”

She agreed with Gerald, but the nurse came in to check on his dressing, and they passed the time watching Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on TV.

But Laura didn’t mind. Her perfect Christmas wish had finally come true.

Epilogue

Christmas Eve at Ty and Julia’s house felt more meaningful than it ever had. Laura stood with her now-healed mate and fiancé, so filled with joy she wanted to burst.

She’d gotten the rest of the presents from her “secret admirer” and was in fact wearing the lacy bra and panty set she’d gotten today under her clothes.

A gift she’d more than give back to her mate later tonight.

They’d even talked about the future with plans to move into Gerald’s home together. To both their shock, Gerald’s mother seemed more excited than they were. The foxes had been so welcoming, just like the bears.

Her friends kept congratulating them. And it felt as if getting mated was a gift for the entire town, oddly enough.

Laura did her best to downplay her happiness, feeling downright giddy at times.

Especially tonight.

Gerald teased her about her holiday glow. “Come on, Grinchy. Let it out. You know you want to.”

She smirked. “You know why.”

He laughed. They’d passed Vanessa Baylor earlier while grabbing a bottle of wine for the party.

“You know, seeing Vanessa’s sneer and dismay did more for my holiday spirit than, well, anything.”

“You’re welcome,” Gerald quipped, and they snickered as he passed the wine to Ty.

“Something I said?” he asked while holding his little girl, an adorable toddler and his spitting image.

“We passed Vanessa on the way over,” Laura admitted. “It was glorious.”

Ty chuckled. “Ah, you wear petty like some women wear diamonds, Laura. So beautiful in all your spitefulness.”

“Thanks, boss.”

“Nicely worded.” Gerald grinned. “Didn’t know you knew any words with more than two syllables, Ty.”
