There he is.

I could see him moving towards the VIP row in a rush. My stomach twisted as he took his seat, all eyes on me.

I sent a silent wish out into the universe for everything to work out.

Raider didn’t deserve to be punished for something he never did.

I moved to the edge of the stage, tapping my microphone. “I need a volunteer to come up on stage,” I said, my voice ringing through the hall.

I could feel excitement ripple through the audience. I looked around, although I already knew who I was going to choose. I pointed right at Rider, giving him a salacious smile. “I think that you'll do,” I said. “Give the gentleman a round of applause.”

The crowd cheered as he came to the edge of the stage. In one swift motion, he jumped up, landing heavily beside me. He was taller than Raider, and broader.

The way that he looked at me made me feel sick. He moved closer, his hand reaching for me. I took a step to the side, giving him a flirtatious look. I was trying to play the part, even if it grated my nerves.

“Alright, sir, I’m going to have you stand right here,” I said, pointing to a piece of tape on the stage.

“I don’t think so,” he said.

I frowned as he stepped towards me again, reaching for me. I started to turn, but he grabbed me and pulled me close.

I felt the barrel of a gun against my back.

Fuck.

“Did you really think this would work?” he whispered. “I know my brother got to you, you stupid whore. And to think I wanted you so bad.”

Fear curled through me, but I refused to show it.

“Keep singing and dancing. Make it look like nothing wrong is happening. And move towards the edge of the stage, that way,” he said, nudging me towards stage right.

I wasn't sure what his plan was, but the gun against my back wasn't a good sign. He was blocking the backstage view with his body, standing right behind me. I forced myself to smile, moving across the stage slowly.

Why wasn't Raider here yet? I couldn’t see him anywhere…

I had to do something. I wasn't sure what. As we neared the edge of the stage, my heart beat louder.

In one swift motion, I twirled out of his grip. The moment the gun that he held was exposed, the crowd screamed. He let out a ferocious growl, reaching for me again. I moved out of the way just in time, making sure that my mic was hot as I spoke.

“Tell them that you lied about Raider,” I growled, pointing at him. “Admit it. Admit that you set him up.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he snarled, stalking towards me.

“Tell them!” I yelled. “You’re a crooked bad guy. You framed your brother and had him thrown in jail.”

He growled, coming closer. I backed up until I was on the very edge of the stage.

“Shut up,” he yelled.

“Tell them,” I said again. “You know it’s true. You framed him.”

The music stopped as he raised his gun, aiming it straight at me. The crowd screamed, mayhem breaking loose.

“They’ll never believe I killed her,” Rider said, glowering at me. He gave me a revolting smile. “Say hello to Jolyene for me.”

“Rider!”

Raider’s voice thundered through the entire venue. I watched in awe as Raider seemed to swing down from the rafters on his rope, landing on the stage with a heavy thud.
