The rules were simple.

On three, we would draw. We would fight.

My fingers twitched as I planted my boots, ready.

“On the count of three,” I said.

“One,” he said.

“Two.”

“Three.”

We both drew our guns, lighting quick, shooting. I rolled to the side, grunting as I felt a bullet pierce my arm. I heard Rider’s shout and turned, seeing that I’d gotten him in the thigh and shoulder.

Blood dripped down. I could feel Mari’s fear, hear her shout in the background.

My hearts thundered as I moved.

Even with the pain, I had to get to him.

I ran, tackling him on the stage. He growled as we rolled, wrangling each other.

“I’m going to kill you,” he snarled. “And then I’ll kill her too for good measure.”

I felt the barrel of the gun against my chest, but moved just in time. He pulled the trigger, but the bullet sailed past me.

I growled and hit him hard across the jaw. He was stronger and bigger, but I’d always been able to use my quickness to my advantage.

“I hate you,” he growled.

“You didn’t always,” I snapped.

The two of us rolled, blood smearing across the stage.

I used my rope as we fought, doing my best to tie him. It wasn’t working well.

He growled and hit me hard across the jaw. My head snapped back and I saw stars for a moment.

I have to win.

I have to beat him.

He pinned me down, hitting me again. Pain burst through my body and I did my best to ignore it, wrestling him again.

This time I managed to get the rope around his torso, working quickly to bind two of his hands. He kicked out at me and missed.

I slammed him down hard on the stage, pinning him face down. He growled as I started to tie him up, binding him like a calf. Within a couple minutes, I had him completely wrapped up.

I grabbed my gun, holding it to him.

“You’re done,” I snarled.

“Do it then,” he growled.

I shook my head, looking up at the officers that waited. I whistled for them. “I’ve conquered him. Come up here.”

I did it.
