He greets Aurora with a hug. “Let’s get home to celebrate Christmas.”

“You cleaned up awful fast,” she says.

“I’m only that guy on stage. I’m not the bad boy. I’m not a Viking whatever. I’m yours, and I want to make sure you see that.”

“I do, Jack. I see the real you. I also know what you’re really in a hurry for.”

We’ve waited for this day. We put it on the calendar and promised not to bug Aurora until today came. We head straight to the store and let her go inside and get the pregnancy test of her choosing. Then Calvin drives us home and we wait anxiously while she pees on that little stick.

It’s agony waiting, but when the little pink plus shows up, I watch her expression.

A smile. Fuck yeah!

“Dibs on the kids calling me Pappy.” I’m laughing so hard I can barely finish the line.

“Have you been waiting this whole time to say that?” Calvin doesn’t appreciate the humor.”

“Yep, because it means I got her pregnant.”

“You?” she asks.

“A guy can dream.” And thank goodness I did. She’s ours forever and she’s truly happy about it.

Epilogue

Aurora

Staringattheheavycurtain on the stage, I’m tickled by all of the buzz around me in the audience. Parents are eager to see their children perform. I’ve achieved my dream with the help of my brothers, not in spite of them.

They bought out the theater, allowing the current director an easy, early retirement. And with all of our changes, the guys finished out the shows they were committed to and helped me put on our first children’s theater performance.

It’s even more nerve-wracking than I expected, but they made me promise to rest and trust that they could handle showtime, since the twins have been giving my belly a workout.

My brothers were theater kids growing up. They remember the fun. And they’ve spent the last several months brushing up on the details.

I rub my hand over my giant belly. This very well could be one of my last outings.

“Is the baby kicking?” my mom asks. “It’s not time, is it?”

My dad winks. “I’m eager to meet the grandkids, but I don’t think the show can go on if your whole family has to head to the hospital.”

My whole family…my heart melts. I wasn’t sure if we’d ever get to this day. Our parents couldn’t understand how we could be attracted to each other. My brothers are older, and all of them sharing one woman?

I understand it sounds weird, but it’s us.

Once our parents saw that we were dedicated to each other and that we would risk losing them before we would risk losing our crazy ensemble, they had to make a choice.

“Not time to go yet, Dad.” I pat his leg.

“This is going to be amazing,” Dad says.

“The guys have to put on the show before we give accolades.”

And they do. The show is a stellar success. The guys are a little ragged, but we meet backstage afterward.

Travis emceed the evening, no more hiding behind his drums being dark and broody. He had the crowd lit up before the show even started.

Calvin flicks a piece of glitter off his phone as he shows us a picture of his handiwork. He fixed a tutu with a stapler. Very clever. He realizes the glitter is stuck to his fingertip, wipes it on my cheek, and winks. I do love to sparkle.
