Page 85 of Tainted Promise

I hadn’t even eaten dinner since I’d forgotten to go to the store. Never mind that I also didn’t know how to cook.

Getting up, I put my empty bottle on the table next to the others and walked out the door. My steps were sure, my plan sounding foolproof to me. I knocked on the door, taking in the clean welcome mat. The smell of cookies wafted through a gap, and I inhaled deeply, my stomach grumbling.

The door creaked open as I was mid-sniff, and I set eyes on my neighbor. All thoughts of mayhem and murder left my brain. The only thing I could see were smooth legs that went on for days, a rack I wouldn’t mind getting closer acquainted with, coppery red thick curls I wanted to bury my hands in, and piercing green eyes that currently spewed fire.

“You done staring?”

I cleared my suddenly dry throat. “You have any sugar, sugar?”

Really smooth, idiot.

She seemed to come to the same conclusion and shut the door in my face.

I should have gone with the lost cat.
