“Sorry, buddy. Guard duty.” Hunter snags him before he murders my wannabe suitors. “Got your back, Killer. You’re safe.”

I let out a breath.

There are a lot of alphas tonight.

A lot of men who could make a grab for me.

Hunter and Finn join Atlas and Jett, loosely surrounding my table, looking deadly in their suits. Their casual, crushing dominance keeps the crowd from surging.

I’ll never admit how comforting it feels to know they’re holding the line.

Even if their stares prickle hardest of all.

The tables are clustered into seating areas, one per omega, and mine’s directly under the central chandelier. Glamorous, but I can’t help glancing up.

Hope nobody cuts the chain.

Rachel—voted most likely to pull that stunt—sits on the opposite side of the room, happily fluttering lashes at alphas. Her sister, Noelle, Senator Charlie Patrick, and the other politico-mates mingle around Rachel’s table. All’s good as long as they stay in their lane.

I grab champagne from my ice bucket. Keyed up from my dance and the humming energy of the party, I’m gonna need bubbles to get through this night.

I’m trying to figure out the cork when Orion steals the bottle, trading me for a massive bouquet. “You were amazing.”

“Thank you.” I go gooey over the big rainbow flowers, which I’ve never thought to want before. Clearly I should’ve. So pretty. I sniff them, but all I catch is Orion’s crisp apple. “What are they?”

“Gerbera daisies. I didn’t know what kind you liked.”

“Neither did I.” Never gotten flowers, or anything really. Last time I was at this party, I didn’t even get a tablecloth.

The glow up is real.

I try to sniff one more time, then sneeze.

Still have crumbled makeup dust in my nose thanks to catty omegas who can’t let me breathe.

“Let me stay?” Orion uncorks the champagne with a satisfying pop, pouring me the first glass. “I want to meet these packs.”

I don’t want to use Orion as a crutch, but my insides twist when my gaze slips to the riot of bodies and scents.

It’s a lot of alpha for just one girl. “You can stay.”

“I won’t leave your side.” He pulls out my chair, and I’m not going to get used to the treatment, but I can enjoy it.

Just for one more night.

“Thanks.” I have enough time for a deep breath, a rub of my itchy nose, and a sip of champagne.

Then the circus rolls into town.

The first pack is four alphas in their early thirties. They bring me roses, smell like iron, and ask straight out the gate, “Can he come to your heat?”

Orion throws a protective arm over my shoulders. “I’ll come wherever she wants me.”

The alphas rumble in a metallic lust spike that has me screaming next!

When they leave, promising to put in an offer anyway, I shrug off Orion’s arm. “Don’t be a tease.”

“I wasn’t,” he says innocently.
