“What’s this about?” It’s not the first time I’ve asked, but Jett won’t share his pain.

His jaw clenches. “It’s about destroying the Redfangs.”

“We don’t have to punch them to death individually,” Hunter says. “Shoot the fuckers.”

“It’s not about that. Jett,” I add pack leader bite to my words. “You can tell us. Anything.” I want to crack open that head and dig out whatever dark secrets made him deny that Lilah belongs to us.

But I don’t blame him.

I blame myself.

Again.

Always.

All I want are answers.

I want Jett to tell me what’s wrong.

I want anyone to tell me what’s wrong so that I can finally fucking fix the problem.

It’s my job to fix the problem.

Hunter’s rage, Finn’s distance, and Jett’s terror.

Even worse, the numbness in my chest that’s Orion.

And the absence where Lilah belongs, but isn’t, and might never be.

Our pack bond is stretched to breaking, and when it finally shatters, we won’t just lose our omegas.

We’ll lose ourselves.

Our brotherhood.

Everything.

“I…” Jett’s emotions flicker hot and cold.

“Uhhh…” The last voice I want to hear cuts into my earpiece. “This a bad time?”

“Not now,” I snarl, but it’s too late. That flare of almost-purged feelings snuffs out and the gate falls behind Jett’s eyes.

Nathan coughs softly on the line.

Orion’s asshole of a biological brother wheedled himself onto the mission team again. I’ve yet to understand what my father sees in him. I fully plan on booting him from Wyvern House the second I take the reins from Scorpio.

“Team three has a higher-up in custody. You want?”

“Where?”

“Main house,” Nathan answers.

“Bring Finn.”

“I don’t want to get torched. Can’t you—”

“Bring. Finn.” My bark rattles over comms.
