Then I feel that stinging pull, the rise of the old Orion in the grasping need to be with her.

I’m like a duckling that changed its imprint.

At least this time, I’m not the only one.

I’m not even the worst.

Without Lilah, Jett and Finn go empty behind their eyes—nothing but chilling shadows and creepy fucking mist that does a shitty job hiding the demons Lilah doesn’t need coming out to play.

“Don’t bother her.” I tug them to the living room.

The bond might be gone, but we still have years of brotherhood and history, so they tolerate my touch

If I were anyone else, they’d rip off my fucking arms.

“Need her.” Finn pulls against me.

“We all need her, but give her space. Last night freaked her out.”

I died when we walked into the cloud of her sex-drenched caramel. Went to heaven when she let us join and I got to spend the whole night in her arms. And her legs.

That’s the future I want.

For all of us.

Feels so good to let go of the fucking burden, being the only omega who could make that dream come true for the pack.

A cracking sound cuts off my future fantasies.

I open my mouth, ready to tell Finn to stop whatever the fuck he’s doing now, but all he’s doing is smiling in thin-lipped, weirdly dark delight.

Jett’s bleeding.

His phone’s shattered in his hand.

He doesn’t twitch.

Don’t think he notices, even though blood drips onto the rug.

“Jett.”

He takes a sharp breath, looks down, then frowns at the mess. “Oh.”

“Oh? You need stitches.”

“No, he doesn’t.” Finn snatches the mangled phone, lobs it, and hits a three-pointer in the kitchen trash. Grinning his toothiest serial killer smile, he pulls Jett to the door. “He finally gets it.”

“Gets what?” I’ve spent years of my life with Finn, mated him, fucked him, and still never know what the hell goes through his head.

I thought I had a better handle on Jett.

Wrong.

“How much I need her.” Jett stares through the walls to Lilah like she’s the North Pole to his broken moral compass. He’s icy as ever, but there’s something new inside the freeze. Something dark and crazed that vibrates on a frequency only Finn can fathom.

“Right?” Finn bounces. “Let’s go fuck up those guys from last night. Then we can go shopping for Star. I’ll show you the best shit.”

“Good.” Jett nods, brushes off his shirt, leaving a blood streak down his chest. “Let’s go.”
