I must make a sound.

Their heads snap.

Then the blanket flies, and they’re dashing to me before I can swallow the hard bubble stuck in my throat.

I dodge Orion’s reach. “No. I won’t interrupt you, I—”

Atlas purrs.

The sound’s so deep it reminds me of being underwater, cradled by the crushing pressure. The solid, all-over, hug of the water and the lick of the current teasing my skin.

The pack leader’s purr is pure safety. And just because he’s not pack leader anymore, doesn’t mean that’s changed.

“Tell me what you need, sweet girl,” he rumbles like a promise. Then he fucking kneels, slipping his hands behind my trembling knees, and dragging me across the carpet.

Atlas nuzzles my belly.

The cramps disappear.

Instead, there’s a crazy fucking flutter.

One hard, breathless clench, like my downstairs real estate just did a fitting for his knot.

Surprise.

We have the perfect spot.

Right here, next to the last oozy bits of my heart.

Let me just sweep up those shards.

What are they?

Oh, my willpower?

Great.

Make yourself at home.

“You’re spiking, baby bear.” Orion strokes my hair. Must ban ridiculous pet names. “Let’s get you to bed.”

Atlas is still camping in my belly button, still gripping my thighs, still soaking me in that dense pack leader dominance that makes me feel like the moon can fall and the sky can burn and as long as I’m in his arms, none of it can ever hurt me.

Dangerous.

I try to pull away from his quicksand hands. “This doesn’t work. I can’t come between you. I—”

“Why?” Orion caresses down to that sweet, sweet spot between my neck and shoulder. “We want you between us.”

Atlas’s approval puffs against my stomach.

I’d collapse from shaking knees, but he’s already holding me up.

“You know what I mean.” My heart aches, but this is the truth. “You’re mates. You’ll bond again, reform the pack, and I’ll be—”

“At our side,” Atlas mumbles into my skin.

“No.”
