I’d do a victory dance, only now I’m stranded at sea.

But I refuse to despair.

Wyvern Pack will come for me.

They’ll find me.

All I have to do is wait.

All I have to do is survive.

FORTY-TWO

JJ

I’m nothing without her.

If we can’t save her—

I cut off the thought.

I’m bleeding, shedding crushed glass, but I can’t feel as I haul my broken body into the chopper with my working arm.

“Finn.” I drop into the seat next to him.

He gives a dead-eyed look that mirrors mine, petting his grenade like a rabbit. “Deal?”

“Deal.” I nod.

Orion’s eyes widen.

I’d shrug, but I can’t care.

The pack must think Finn and I don’t talk, but the truth is, we’ve never needed words.

We understand.

If we can’t save Lilah, we’ll end it for each other.

Hunter hops into the cockpit and the blades start to whir. Atlas and Orion huddle, staring at the dot on my phone.

I grip my collar and watch the horizon.

I’ll destroy anything to save my Lilac.

Especially myself.

FORTY-THREE

LILAH

Heat crisps my veins.

Or maybe it’s sunburn?

My eyelids are slits, salt-crusted and stinging after endlessly bobbing in waves and burning sun.

Even the pain hits in waves.
