When I find the real estate listing, my fingers start to shake.
It’s a cottage so far from civilization, you have to drive in on ATVs. The place is fully off-grid with a working garden, a wood stove, and only one room with one little bed.
It’s just for me.
I push the other offers to the floor and hug the Wyverns’ to my chest.
When the Wyverns are bad, they’re the worst, but when they’re good…
Holy fuck are they good.
I dial Catherine, who picks up on the first ring. “Lilah? Are you alright? Have you chosen?”
Hugging the binder, I smile. “I made my choice.”
My next phone call is harder.
I sweep all the binders from my nest, holding on to the winner, then regroup in the living room.
I feel itchier by the second, and my belly’s starting to flutter, that achy pulse picking up between my legs. I pull up Orion’s number, but my finger hovers over the call button.
My old fears rise.
Especially the one where they leave me writhing.
But now I’ve seen what they’ll do for me—and what I’m willing to do for them.
I’m tired of being the girl who gets left.
Now I’m going to be the girl who gets loved.
I hit call.
Doesn’t even go a full ring.
“Lilah? You okay?” Orion’s instant anxiety is so cute, I can’t help smiling.
“Need you.”
The door whips open.
Alphas grumble from the hall, but Orion shuts them out, slamming and holding the door. He wears a soft blue sweater that matches his eyes and makes my fingers twitch to rub him… Everywhere.
When he spots the binder I’m clutching like my favorite child, he gives a grin so wicked, I think my birth control pops.
While he stalks to me, I touch the bump on my arm—just in case.
Still there.
“Koala.” He wraps me in a hug, squashing the binder between us. “Did you decide?”
“Yeah. But answers first? I feel like I’ve been out of it for weeks.”
“Anything,” he murmurs into my hair.
I tug him to the couch. “Are you okay? Your bro—”
“Is dead.” He twines our fingers, jaw clenching. “You don’t need to think about him. Ever. What else do you want to know?”
