“You asked.” Whether or not he’ll believe me?

Don’t care.

I have to say the truth.

Remind myself what really happened.

They don’t get to erase what I survived.

I run Hikaru through the dossier line by line, from the kitchen receipt that says I have the biggest meal plan—I absolutely switched it to the smallest one to save cash—to the actual punishments the trainers dished out for all the fights I never started.

Hikaru takes notes while Stacey shakes in her pantsuit.

“You were caned.” He speaks dangerously low. “Starved and punished with isolation. Is that how we discipline omegas?”

“It’s…not,” Stacey stammers, “b-but, Lilah. She—”

“You’ll have to excuse me.” Hikaru unfolds from his chair. “I’m calling a campus meeting. Cancel classes and call all faculty and staff to the auditorium. Ten minutes for anyone who wants a chance at keeping their job.”

Stacey flies out of the office.

“Talking to them won’t change anything.” This place is too rotten.

“If it’s that corrupt, I’ll burn it to ashes.”

“If you say so.” I don’t care if there was a conspiracy because that doesn’t change shit about my past.

It won’t undo the fights, the beatings, and growing up watching every supposed adult in my life fail to step in and do the right thing.

Including Hikaru.

I mean, yeah, make those assholes suffer.

Love to see it.

But if he expects me to bat my lashes and call him my hero, he should’ve stepped in before I had to learn how to save myself.

“I want names. Which trainers are responsible?”

“The worst? Marc, Renee, Tasha, Noah, Michelle.” It would be easier to list the ones who aren’t evil.

He pulls out a thick sheet of paper, scrawls a few lines, and finishes with the flourish of a signature. “I put you in one of the VIP bungalows. We have the most secure perimeter on that side of campus. I’ll have your scheduler wait for you there. It’s not safe for you to leave campus.”

I take the paper, shocked he’s not flat-out canceling my meeting. I was ready to bite my lip in half to shake his next alpha command. “You suddenly care?”

“It’s not sudden.”

I snort. “Where’ve you been since I was four?”

“Managing dozens of other businesses. If I’d known…”

“Known what?”

“That you were their mate.”

My stomach roils. Hate this topic. “You knew.”

“I didn’t know a thing until your dance showcase. Then I saw the way they watched you on that stage. That’s when we remembered Jett’s friendship with you.”
