Not Lilah’s.

The demon and her nightmare minions.

“You can’t keep me away from Lilah.” Orion quivers, ready to fight.

I’m not here enough to argue, and I wouldn’t argue with him. I’ve hurt Orion enough. “You can drive.”

He lets out a tight breath. “I’ll grab the keys.”

I drift behind, trying to stay lucid, but I’m fraying. The threads that make me me, the sticky web of lies that holds my past together—it’s all unraveling.

Maybe tonight’s the night I finally face my truth.

Too soon we’re pulling onto campus.

Every time I’m here is death.

I follow Orion like a ghost, drifting to the admin building. My father’s secretary is gone, but familiar voices argue in the office.

The pack is here.

I reach for my bond, banking on that last thread to keep me from falling apart, but as soon as I cross the threshold, Lilah’s scent slices everything away.

It’s burnt sugar, sweet and perfect.

Pain stabs behind my eyes.

Hikaru dishes his usual acid, sour that Orion followed, and my pack brothers argue, but their voices echo through a lead pipe.

I move to my father’s bar cart, pour a shot of something amber, and knock it back.

“You may as well pour another glass.” Hikaru’s eyes pinch.

Atlas looms over my father’s desk. “Is she hurt?”

“Not at the moment.”

Finn hefts a crystal paperweight like he’s testing if it’s strong enough to crush bone. “You’d better get real chatty, Uncle.”

I refill my glass, then pour one for my father, never once feeling my fingers.

He takes a swig, then rubs his temples. “I spent the day firing half the staff. I’d fire them all, but we’d have to shut down and send the omegas home.”

“What’s the deal?” Hunter eyes my father’s desk.

Following his gaze, I finally notice the thick folder half-hidden under my father’s elbows.

“Read it.” Hikaru offers the folder.

Hunter takes the offer first.

Silence hangs.

Drags.

The papers tremble in Hunter’s hands. “Holy…”

Atlas grabs it before it drops to the floor, and Orion reads over his shoulder. Atlas’s dominance rises with anger that smokes in my chest.
