“Do you have a first aid kit?” He blows gently over a scrape on my thigh.

I tense my quads to hide my shudder. “No idea.”

He goes to rummage through the bathroom, returning with bandages and spray. When he starts to clean my knees, the sting of antiseptic restarts my critical thinking skills. “What are you doing?”

“Taking care of you.”

My temperature rises. “I can’t do this.”

“Do what? Me?” He fucking smirks.

I push his hands, and Orion lets me retreat to the other side of the couch. I still don’t know how I’m this attracted to an omega, but it’s impossible to deny when he barely touches me and I swear my thighs are slick.

I try to take a breath, but instead of centering myself, I’m stuck in the center of an apple cider donut. I rub my arms. “Your pack doesn’t want me.”

“That’s because my pack is deadass stupid.” Orion sighs. “And it’s me they don’t want.”

“Not true.”

Orion gives a sad smile. “When you showed up, I was terrified you’d replace me. You’d straight up take my spot or make me second place.”

“I—”

“I’m not blaming you,” he says quickly. “I know the dads forced you. I just realized I was ready to throw down with you over a position I never wanted. If we weren’t all so wrapped up in our own bullshit, we would’ve seen how much we needed you.”

I feel warm inside, but not cozy warm.

Like my internal organs just went sploosh.

Melted.

“You have two weeks,” he says, as if I need the reminder. “They don’t understand how fast they can lose you.”

“They’re going to find out.”

“I know. And if you want to go into rotation, I get it. I get it more than they ever could. Just, please. Please, don’t shut me out because of them. I can’t take losing you too.”

His voice is so raw.

When his shoulders hunch and he bites his lip, I shatter.

What willpower?

I open my arms.

Orion dives, rolling me like a seal until I’m lying on top of him, squeezed so tight I realize I’ve never been held before.

My face slips into the hollow of his neck.

Perfect fucking fit.

“I don’t want to be alone,” he whispers, fingers in my hair.

“I feel like I can only be alone.” His warmth fills up my empty spaces, but this soul-soothing touch is only temporary.

He’ll be as helpless as I am when my heat hits.

He can’t stop the pain.
