“Can I—”

“Nathan.”

“Wait,” he insisted. “Just one more thing.”

I sighed, but I also couldn’t stop myself from indulging him. “Go on.”

“Can I have a kiss?”

Though not what I had expected, that was one request I didn’t mind granting.

I reached him in three strides. Grabbing his hip in one hand and tangling the other in his curls, I jerked him to me and slanted our mouths together. He opened willingly, without coaxing, and I slid my tongue between his lips to taste him. Eager and pliant, he yielded beautifully, accepting every stroke and nip with a silent plea for more.

God, I loved the way he responded, and his quiet whimper sent a jolt of electricity straight to my cock. When he rocked into me, his erection grinding against my hip, I knew exactly what he wanted, and it took a concentrated effort to break the kiss and step away.

“Go study.”

“One more?”

His eyes were all soft and unfocused, and the pout of his lips was cute as hell. “After you study.”

He huffed but didn’t push the issue again. “Fine. I still get pizza, though, right?”

I chuckled and shoved him out of the kitchen. “Yes. Go already.”

“Hey, Gage?”

“What now?”

“I love you.”

My shoulders relaxed, and the impatience melted away. “I love you, too.”

I knew he worried about me. About himself. About how his mother would retaliate. He didn’t have to be afraid, though.

I wouldn’t let anyone hurt him again.

I didn’t know how yet, but I would make everything right.

And if the senator wanted a fight, I would give her a fucking war.

I had crushed my finals and could now look forward to four uninterrupted weeks with Gage before the next semester started.

Gage had also come through on his promise to help me find employment with a company that designed app-based games for cell phones and tablets. It wasn’t an internship, but a paid entry-level position. The best part was that it didn’t start until after graduation, so I didn’t have to adjust my course schedule.

Since I lived in a furnished apartment, it had taken only a single afternoon to pack up my belongings and move them into Gage’s house. It had been cute the way he’d offered me my own room, as if we hadn’t already been sharing a bed.

Instead, we had turned one of the spare rooms into an office of sorts. A place for me to study and work without being in the way. Gage had been quick to assure that I was never in the way, but the request had been for my benefit as well as his. The guy was just too damn distracting.

My life had changed so drastically and in such a short amount of time that some days, I still had trouble trusting it. I also knew that none of it would have been possible without Gage, and I didn’t know how I could ever repay him.

Doing a livestream interview with a popular influencer seemed like a good way to start, though.

As promised, we hadn’t attended the campaign rally in Addison. I knew the slight wouldn’t go unanswered, but I hadn’t anticipated that the senator’s retaliation would happen at the rally itself.
