“Yes,” he answered slowly. “Why?”

“I called for him at the hotel. I was grabbed right after he left.”

Erus cursed under his breath. He and his little star were going to have a long fucking talk about safety once they made it out of this mess.

“So, does this mean you’ll have to stay now?”

Erus nodded reluctantly. He truly didn’t see a way around it anymore. At least, not for the foreseeable future.

“Can I stay with you?”

For that, he didn’t have a good answer.

Of course, he didn’t want to be separated from his mate. At the same time, he couldn’t ask Orrin to give up his life and responsibilities to move to the Underworld. If Orrin did come to live with him, he would naturally want to visit his friends and family from time to time. It would be centuries, however, before Erus could join him on those little trips.

Which meant for every week Orrin stayed topside, Erus would have to spend decades missing him. Also not ideal. So, where exactly did that leave them?

“Perhaps I can help with that.”

Appearing a few feet away, Hades smiled down at Orrin. It was such a foreign expression for the god, Erus at first wondered if he was having a stroke.

“Is that…” Orrin trailed away and looked to Erus for confirmation.

“Yes. That’s Hades.”

He tried not to be jealous when Orrin scrambled to his feet to greet the King of the Underworld. It wasn’t easy, though. Especially when Hades was still making that stupid face as if he had just been reunited with a long-lost friend.

“Be careful, asteraki.” He gripped Orrin’s shoulder to steady him when he swayed on his feet.

His mate completely ignored him, his attention fully on Hades. “It’s an honor to meet you…” His voice faded, and a cute scowl tugged at his mouth. “I’m sorry. I don’t know what to call you.”

“Hades is fine.”

“Oh, I don’t—”

“Don’t argue.” Erus rolled his eyes and huffed. “You won’t win.”

Orrin dipped his head. “In that case, it’s an honor to meet you, Hades. I’m Or—”

“Orrin Nightstar. Elven prince with no desire to walk in his father’s footsteps.” Shuffling closer, Hades locked his hands together behind his back and smirked. “Maybe I can help you with two things.”

“Maybe you can get to the fucking point,” Erus muttered. Why did the god always have to be so damn dramatic?

The genial expression faded, and Hades narrowed his eyes. “I’m still annoyed with you. Don’t push it.”

Fair enough. Erus held his hands up in supplication. “Please continue.”

“First, I need to know if your prince really does want to stay here.”

In answer, Orrin took Erus’ hand and linked their fingers together. “If I live here, I can be with Erus, right?”

It was a heady feeling to know that his mate was ready and willing to sacrifice everything to be with him. It also kind of made him feel like an asshole for putting his little star in that position in the first place.

“Right,” Hades agreed.

“Then, yes. I want to stay here.”

“And how would you feel about taking on another position?”
