“I don’t eat eggs,” Pepper announced as he sashayed across the room to join Tyr at the corner table.

“Then find your own breakfast,” Sindri answered.

“Can you just make me some toast?”

“Can’t you just make it yourself?” His tone practically oozed with disdain.

Erus coughed to cover his laughter when Pepper glared at the back of the Guardian’s head. “There’s no need to be rude.”

Sindri swung around to face him, still brandishing his spatula like a weapon. “You started it!”

“Oh, shut it. You’ve been needling me for days with all your ghost cat nonsense.”

It had been a particularly ugly fight when Sindri had served Pepper a saucer of warm milk for dinner the previous evening.

“You are so full of yourself. I could snap you like a twig.”

“Bring it on, you giant fucking moose.”

A cocksure smile stretched one side of Sindri’s mouth as he lifted his hand to crook his index finger. “Here, kitty, kitty.”

“Do something,” Orrin urged. “They’re going to kill each other.”

Frankly, Erus didn’t see the downside in that, but what his mate wanted, his mate got. “Okay, enough! Pepper, stop being so damn sensitive. Sindri—” He lifted his nose and sniffed at the air. “—you’re burning the eggs.”

“Fuck!”

The gods give him strength. It was like herding fucking…cats.

“Looks like the Ministry is finally getting its shit together.” Tyr still stared at the tablet in his hand, and he spoke as if unaware of the drama that had just taken place. “Miercole was sacked.” He chuckled at this. “I’ll be damned. Thorne is taking his place.”

None of this was news to Erus. Sorting out the Department of Defense had been his last official task before leaving the Ministry. It had taken little persuasion to convince Thorne to take the job. All he’d had to do was ensure the male that he wouldn’t have to move to San Diego.

Why he would want to stay in the shithole that was Hunters Hollow, Erus couldn’t understand. In fact, after his last couple of visits to purchase Orrin treats from the bakery, he had decided it was finally time to sell the home he maintained there as well. Surprisingly, he already had a buyer.

He was pulled back into the moment when Orrin leaned against him and sighed. “What is it, asteraki?”

“Nothing. I’m just really happy.”

“I’m glad.”

He would do anything to secure his mate’s happiness, even if that meant being separated from him so that he could continue to live with his family. Thankfully, that hadn’t happened because he honestly didn’t know how he would live without his little star.

“Oh, Mom invited us to dinner next week.”

“Anything you want.” It helped that he actually adored Orrin’s family.

“You always say that.” Orrin chuckled. “Don’t you ever want anything for yourself?”

Sliding a knuckle under his mate’s chin, he tilted his head to claim his lips. “I already have everything I want right here.”
