Grabbing a pen off the nightstand, she leaned over the end of her bed, using the end of the utensil to drag the paper towards her. She flipped it open, eyes squinting in the poor light.

Stark against the paper were three lines of black-inked writing. Hurrying to flip on the light, she looked again. Her pulse kicked.

The bodies are just the beginning.

He’s burying his sins.

It’s Dan.

“Fuck.” Scrambling, Teddi dove for the window and shoved the curtains aside. The parking lot was devoid of life. Shaking with adrenaline, she tried to catch any movement, scanning left to right repeatedly. Nothing and no one was there. Her breath burst across the cold pane.

Someone left a note and pointed the finger at Deputy Gunson. Somebody knew they knew about the bodies. About all of it.

Stumbling across the room, Teddi barreled into the bathroom.

“Vera,” she froze at the vision of Vera’s dripping, naked body before her. Her hand was still on the curtain, the shower just turned off.

Dark nipples on small breasts, lean curves from the runs she knew she took nearly every day. Teddi went wet at the sight.

“What the hell?” Slapping her hand over her chest, Vera reached for a towel.

Right. She wasn’t supposed to be seeing her ex-girlfriend’s nude and wet body. She tried to tell her pussy that as she stepped back, eyes returning to the space between her thighs over and over where a triangle of dark hair was nestled.

“Sorry, it’s… sorry, someone, at the… and they…”

“Slow down. What happened?” She tucked the towel under her armpits and stepped out of the shower.

Teddi gulped down air. “There’s a note.” She finally got words out, her voice hoarse.

She pushed past her as water ran in rivulets down her shoulders. “Where?”

“Other side of my bed.” She tried to look away from the way the towel hugged her ass, she really did. But she couldn’t, especially not when Vera leaned over the edge of the mattress.

“Grab a glove out of my backpack.” Teddi forced herself to move, jerking forward awkwardly.

“Right.”

“Did you see anyone outside?”

“No one but I only woke up a few minutes ago. I’m not sure how long it’s been sitting there.” Finally finding the bundle of latex gloves, she pulled one out sending the rest flying across the floor. “I think it’s safe to say everyone in town knows where we are.”

Slipping on a blue glove, Vera grabbed the edge of the small paper and placed it on the round table, reading the words out loud. Teddi leaned over her shoulder. “Dan? Dan Gunson?”

“That’s what I’m thinking.” She didn’t mean to but Teddi inhaled through her nose. The sharp tang of lemons called up a mile of memories inside of her. She hadn’t been able to drink lemonade in ten years because of it. It was Vera, it was home, it was achingly comforting and acutely painful. Her mouth watered and she inhaled again.

“What sins is he burying?” Vera murmured, forcing Teddi to lean close enough to brush against her. A drop of water rolled down Vera’s back soaking into Teddi’s t-shirt over her nipple, making it stick to her chest. Her stomach dipped.

Teddi’s answer was an automatic thing, some jumble of words she couldn’t find the effort to care about. “I’m not sure. Stealing? Cheating?” Vera hummed as she leaned, her ass pushing against Teddi’s hips. She bit her lip.

“Are the bodies the sins or something else entirely? Who else would know about them?” Vera’s hair fell forward, nearly dripping water onto the paper.

“Careful, Ver.” She brushed the ends back, tucking them behind her ears. The look on Vera's face was not one of gratitude. Heat quietly unfurled inside the room, the note forgotten. “Wouldn’t want it to get wet.” Teddi’s mouth went dry. She hadn’t meant it to sound sexual. She hadn’t planned for the idea of Vera getting anything wet to conjure up the darkest of the thoughts she played out when she was alone.

The space between them drew tighter, pulsing with every second their mouths were apart. The air grew heady. Teddi was standing on a precipice, her heart in her toes, begging to have an excuse to leap.

“Just one more,” Vera whispered desperately before pressing her lips against Teddi’s.

The drips from her hair found their way to their meeting place. The cool water icy against the heat of their skin. Vera groaned into her mouth as her tongue plunged in. Ripping the gloves off her hands, she dove them into her hair, pulling her tight, as if there were only seconds to steal. Pressing her body against Teddi’s, the towel stifled the full feel of her curves.
