Barak had his eyes covered, and Casserty, Steadman, and Doyle had their eyes directed at the ceiling—though Raj wouldn’t have put it past Marcus Doyle to have looked his fill too.

Michael had similar concerns because he spun around his wife to block her body.

“Oh, umm. Well, before the dessert course, we’re going to take a short break. Everyone who hasn’t left the building can hang out in the living room. Don’t set anything on fire or discuss diets,” Kandal said.

“Try my room,” Varma suggested.

In a rather impressive show of strength, Michael picked his wife up, keeping his body between her and the rest of the group. He sidestepped his way up the stairs and climbed up them, the only visible part of Angela now her blond hair on his shoulder.

Raj’s phone beeped, and only one word flashed on his screen from Tabitha.

Tabee: OVER.

Now the right thing to do was chase her down and check on her.

Or he could stay here to see what fireworks went down next.

Raj hit delete on his phone.

Chapter 16

Angela truly wanted to disappear. She’d planned on giving the impression of being a professional at the top of her game.

Instead, she certainly made an impression by flashing a group of MetroGen attendings. Perfect.

This is what she got for letting Stella Magi dictate her sexy underwear shopping.

“Which door is Kayla’s?” Michael asked, still carrying her.

“That one.” She pointed, and he kicked the door open before setting her on Kayla’s bed.

“You okay?” He watched her carefully.

“No, I’m not okay. My boobs weren’t invited to the dinner party, and they showed up anyway.”

“You’ll feel better when you have clothes on.”

Someone knocked on the door. Michael answered it, moving the door a few inches.

“It’s Eliza. Do you want me to see if I can repair it? I’m pretty good.”

“Sure thing. Hang on.”

Angela stood to get the dress off and tried to unzip it. During her contorted attempts to reach the zipper, she heard one of the seams rip. “Crap.”

Michael seemed to be holding in laughter as he passed it through the cracked open door.

“Okee-dookee,” Eliza said. “I’ll have this back in a jiffy.”

“You want to hide under the covers for now or try on some of Kayla’s clothes?” Michael asked.

“Can I crawl under the covers and disappear?” Angela asked, sliding under Kayla’s bedspread.

“I don’t know. Are these things magical?” Michael pointed at the Tardis motif. “What are these?”

“Tardises. Or Tardi. I’m not sure since it’s an anagram. It travels through time and space.” Angela drew the covers up to her chest.

“There is a lot of sci-fi stuff in here. Is that a dagger?” He pointed to Kayla’s computer, which had a pointed metal blade next to opened envelopes.
