“They want you to come to dinner, as I expected.”

“Sounds good, I will be happy to.”

“I know you mean well, and I appreciate that, but can you just take me home.”

Disappointment immediately set in with her request. I was hoping she’d let me take her out for lunch or an early dinner after this, but alas respecting Kim’s wishes would come first.

“Ok, Mr. Jones, I’ve got your measurements here, would you like to try on the suit?”

Izabella came back in with the same happy smile on her face and held both the suit and shoes in her hands. When she finally looked at Kimberly then to me, her smile dropped a little.

“Thank you, Izabella, but actually Kimberly isn’t feeling too hot, so I’m going to take her home. If you can ring up both outfits including any extras we may need, please.”

Pulling out my wallet then credit card, I handed it over to her without a second thought. Kim’s eyes shot up as Izabella disappeared with my card.

“You can’t buy me that dress!” she shouted.

“I can buy whatever I like actually,” I joked, and she didn’t seem impressed with me. “I owe it to you and anyways, you are not leaving without that dress, it would be a shame. So tough, I am buying it and it will be sent to you when it's ready.”

She didn’t protest or continue to get mad, she just scowled at me, and I couldn’t help but smile. Although many years had passed between us, she still had the same mannerisms and tells. It was cute, she was still cute – Beautiful even.

“There you go, Mr Jones; I will have our tailors and seamstresses sort out both garments for you and they will be sent to the address your assistant gave us.”

Once we were done and said our thank yous, Kim followed me out of the store and into the main street again. Some of the streetlamps had been switched on as the fall sun was starting to set and it looked like a whole different place.

Christmas twinkle lights trailed lamp post to lamp post. Each shop window had some form of fall, harvest or Christmas display already going up. There was an evening styled farmers market set up across the street.

“Shall we go and grab a cup of coffee before we leave?”

Please say yes, please say yes.

Sighing, Kim rolled her eyes at me then smiled a little.

“Coffee sounds nice, but only one.”

Inner me cheered as I felt a pinch of happiness, I didn’t want to ruin this day. Although she wanted to go home, I was hoping it was just due to her argument with her mom and nothing to do with me.

“I just have to make a quick phone call; I need someone to go in and check on Daisy.”

“Ah yeah, your dog. How old is she?”

“She will be six in January. I hate leaving her for this long, but I know Crystal will happily go over and check on her. She'll let her out and most likely spend the rest of the day there as I know she closes the café early on Sundays.”

Giving her some privacy as she walked a few steps away from me to make her call, I pulled out my own phone. It looked like I had missed a few texts and at least ten phone calls from Paula, my personal assistant. I had put my phone on silent once I picked up Kimberly. I felt it would have been rude if my phone kept ringing or while I was trying to talk to her.

“WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?!”

“Hello, Paula, sorry my phone was on silent, what’s up?”

“WHAT’S UP?! Don’t you dare 'what’s up' me for god’s sake!”

Paula had been my personal assistant since I signed on with the Devils and back then I was just a sub. She had taken a chance on me and for that, I would always be grateful for her. When I spent my first Christmas alone, she was mortified and demanded I spend the next one with her and her family. Ever since then, I have spent every holiday season with her, her husband and their four kids. That was ten years ago. They were my second family now.

“Sorry, I just didn’t want my phone blowing up while I was out with Kim.”

“Look, I get that you want to make amends with this woman. I’m happy to see your growth, but do not, I repeat DO NOT sleep with her. You did not tell me this was Kimberly Morgan, the world champion figure skater! And you didn’t tell me she was your high school sweetheart.”

“Did I not?”
