“If you don’t buy it, I will buy it for you.”

Rolling her eyes at me, Kim picked the dog back up and headed towards the till. Kim tapped her phone onto the card machine as the older woman wrapped the decoration up in tissue paper and popped it into a paper bag. A smile creeped across Kim’s face as she swung the bag and did a little dance of excitement.

I had never seen her do that before and it made me wonder if she was letting her guard down a bit more with me. I hoped so.

As we continued on our walk, we came to a hot chocolate and warm apple cider stand with some seating outside. Thankfully, they were all under heat lamps. I ordered us both a hot chocolate, mine special with a shot of whiskey as I needed some liquid courage. Kim was making me nervous, she appeared more relaxed, more open and I wasn’t sure why.

I was waiting for the other shoe to drop after I had disappeared for the last three weeks, and we hadn’t really brought the subject up. Which meant, I was going to have to.

“Kim, I’m sorry I didn’t come back to town after that morning in the hotel. Paula had me run ragged doing every interview possible, then we had to get the ball rolling with the charity match. I did try and take a day to travel up, but then Chris got me back into training and time just ran away.”

At the end of my word vomit spew, I winced inwardly. She had just sat there listening to my every word as she cupped her hot chocolate mug in her hands, keeping them warm. Under the heat lamp, her skin glowed a warm flush. I couldn't help, but notice how her eyes sparkled with the fairy lights.

“Sam, I watched the interviews. Don’t worry, I know you were busy, and I didn’t want to keep distracting you by texting too much.”

“You didn’t need to text me to distract me.”

A blush flashed along her cheeks as she took a sip of her drink. She had distracted me, even without hearing her voice or reading her words. Her image was imprinted in my brain and all I wanted to do was be next to her, or any way she wanted me.

“Shall we go back to the hotel after this?” she asked.

Her question took me by surprise as I thought we would be out for at least another hour. A quick glance around told me the market stalls were beginning to shut down for the night. I looked at my watch and saw it was getting close to eleven at night. Which was late, but it also meant the temperature was going to drop even more. I guessed we were both cold almost to our bones now. Feeling grateful the whiskey helped warm me up a little, I wondered if she was too cold.

Taking a sip of my drink, some small dab of whipped cream pressed against my nose. Kim had to hold back her laugh as she watched me make a mess of myself. Before I could even clean it off, she whipped out her phone and took a snap of me.

“OI! You’re not going to sell that to some trashy magazines now, are you?”

“Why not? Bet I could make some decent money.” She teased me, handing me a napkin.

“And to answer your question, yes, let’s head back to the hotel.”

It would have taken a while to walk back to the hotel, so I opted for us to grab a cab. The driver was only too excited to have me as a passenger. He badgered me into answering lots of questions and to sign a piece of paper for his son. Kim didn’t seem annoyed or remotely bothered as she looked out the window watching the world go on by.

After we pulled up to the hotel and I paid the cab driver, we headed inside and surprisingly it was quiet. I assumed that the boys and the other team may have gone into town to celebrate. Or they were already in bed, most likely celebrating with their chosen partners.

Heading upstairs to the the floor, I assumed her room was on, Kim stayed quiet. When we reached her door, we both stopped outside of it. I wasn’t sure where we were going next, did she want me to join her? Or would it be better for both of us if I left to head back to my room, where me and my hand would become best friends?

“It was nice spending time with you.”

“Yeah, I’ve missed that face of yours.”

Why was I so nervous? It wasn’t as if I hadn’t recently had this girl pressed up against me. Granted we always had clothes on, but I could let my imagination think otherwise. She lowered her eyes from me, biting her bottom lip and all I could think about was biting it myself.

“Well, goodnight then.”

She leaned forward a little then leaned back, turning towards her room door. I wasn’t sure what to do other than grabbing her wrist and pulling her back round.

As I pulled her into me, she wrapped her arms around me hugging me tightly as I hugged her back. My palms felt slightly sweaty as I thought about making the next move, I didn’t want to push. Only go at her pace. Whatever that was.

Looking up at me, her long lashes made me crave her more and without thinking, I lifted her chin up a little and brushed my lips against hers. Feeling her melt almost into me, I kept kissing her. Softly and with care at first as my hand went round and cupped the back of her neck while my other hand rested on the base of her back.

She tasted a little of chocolate and as I deepened our kiss, we moved backwards until her back landed on the hotel room door. Her hands wrapped themselves up in my hair, pulling me closer to her.

Seconds later, one hand left my hair then the beep of the door went as she held the room card up to unlock it. We almost fell into the room, paying more attention to one another than the door opening. Barely keeping ourselves up right, we moved out of the doorway, letting it shut behind us. I couldn’t contain my hunger for her as I lifted her up, her legs wrapping around my waist.

Slamming her against the wall that connected the room and the bathroom, I left her lips as I trailed kisses down her neck. She let out a soft moan, which only drove my desires higher.
