“What’s the limit?” he inquires. “I need to know the parameters of what you’re asking for, because I don’t want to let you go.”

“I’m not trying to catch boyfriends like Pokémon. I want to settle down and have relationships with—”

“The ones you’ve already got?” he finishes.

I nod. “Yeah, but I also want them to know who I am before that happens. I want to give them the choice to walk away if they don’t like Jasper more than Gemma.”

He squints at me. “You want to tell them your name?”

“And more, yes. Riley and Ezra already know. Kane doesn’t.”

“And Quin?”

I scrunch my nose. “What about him?”

“Are you keeping him, too?”

“He’s not mine.”

Lory rolls his eyes, stroking his index finger over my thigh. “That’s not what I asked.”

“I’ll keep him safe,” I reply.

“Also not what I asked,” he sarcastically points out. “Don’t be evasive now that I’m considering it.”

“There’s nothing between us except bickering and smart remarks. We live massively different lifestyles. Maybe we can kindle a friendship… But more than that? Not likely.”

“Define the parameters, Jasper,” he encourages. “I will try, but I won’t promise anything other than I don’t want to be without you.”

I frown. “There’s something else I need to tell you.”

He sighs.

“It’s nothing bad,” I defend. “I just need to tweak some information you have.”

“I’m listening.”

“I’ve had these identities for so long…” I trail off, struggling to articulate what I need to say. “Sometimes, I don’t even know who I am. But Gemma doesn’t fit with Jasper anymore, and I don’t want to be that person. I’m going to just be Jasper or the—”

“Or who?”

I shake my head.

“I know you’re a member of the Ghost,” he tells me. “Why did you clam up?”

“What? No. I mean, yes, but no.”

“What?”

“I am the Ghost,” I confess. “There’s just one.”

He scratches at his jaw. “Mmm. Pretty sure there’s like three or four people working under that name. I mean, at least two, bare minimum. They’ve just told you that you’re the only one.”

“Don’t be condescending. That doesn’t even make sense. I know who I’ve killed, where they’ve fallen, and what color petal was left at the scene. I am the Ghost, Lory.”

“All of them?”

“All of them,” I admit.
