He opens my fridge, grabbing two bottles of water and passing one to me in an attempt to buy himself a minute to think. I let him puzzle out the situation, but we’re both aware of what we have to do.

Finally, Lory pegs me with a determined expression, one that says he’s behind me, if I’m sure.

“Are you willing to lose everyone you care about?” he asks, his tone warning.

“Who do I care about other than you and my parents?” I counter, aiming for teasing to lighten the mood.

“Hmm,” he hums, tapping his chin like the smart ass he is. “There are seven days of the week—”

“I don’t have seven guys.”

He snorts. “Just three.”

“Jealous?” I quip, smirking at him. “You could always jump into the rotation. I spend my Mondays with you, anyway.”

“No.” His answer is short, clipped… fast enough to cause whiplash.

“Those street rats keeping you busy?” I muse, giving him my back. “I hope you wear a condom.”

Lory grabs my arm, snatching me into his personal space. I don’t fight him as he towers over me, opposing but oh so gentle with his grip. The warm scent of bergamot, pepper, and Amberwood washes over me, and I let my eyes fall shut for the briefest second as the heat in gaze washes over me.

“What I do in my bed is my business, Jasper,” he rumbles.

“Do you flip her over and imagine it’s me beneath you? Or growl out my name when you come on her back?” I grin at him, pushing his buttons as if it’s my sole purpose in life. “Or do you close your eyes while she’s on her knees, tipping your head back as you remember what it’s like to have my lips wrapped around your cock, driving you to the edge of insanity?”

“You have already driven me insane,” he mumbles, leaning down as if to kiss me.

This is where we differ, where we’ll never see eye-to-eye. Lory isn’t a casual fling sort of person. He wants one woman to be his entire world. And while I could be that woman for him, one man can’t be my world.

I’m selfish.

I won’t change, nor do I want to.

This city will be mine. It’s time to shift the way I think about everything within these limits… The violence, weapons, and drugs.

The cops, investigators, and agents.

The cartels, gangs, and citizens.

These men.

I want it all.

Or nothing at all.

I’m willing to fight to the death for every bit of it.

And when I win…

Riley Barker is mine.

Kane Lawson is mine.

Lorenzo Navarra is mine.

And anyone else I want.

Within reason, of course. I don’t really need a man for every day of the week. I like my days off to be just that.
