“But she’s lying to you! Why would you marry her? I love you,” Angelina wailed, falling to the floor in tears.

“Have some dignity,” Carter said, entering the room and seeing her on the floor.

Vincenzo held out a hand to help her to stand, but Angelina shoved it away.

“Fuck you, Vinny. She’s using you. You’ll come crawling back to me,” she hissed before flouncing from the condo.

Vincenzo closed the door behind her and turned to me. “Are you hungry?” he asked as if nothing had happened.

I gaped at him. He hadn’t once asked me about food or any other comforts. “I was going to have the leftover food your mom cooked.”

“We need to talk and I’m starving. Get dressed, and we’ll go out to eat.”

“You mean a date?”

“Think of it as a business meeting.”

“Business. Right.” I ignored the pang of disappointment.

I went to my room to freshen up, putting my hair into a high bun and applying lip gloss. Slipping my feet in the sandals, I looked at myself in the mirror, reminding myself that this wasn’t a date.

“Ready.” I swished out of the guest bedroom.

Vincenzo froze, dragging his eyes from my feet to my face.

I frowned. “What?”

“Nothing.” Vincenzo opened the door and placed his hand on my lower back to lead me out.

I couldn’t remember the last time I’d dined out with a man. Mark and I had been together for so long that I was used to hanging out at home or with his friends. Vincenzo took us to a nice restaurant near downtown.

“Do you come here often?”

Vincenzo sat back, staring at me. “For business, mostly.”

“Oh.”

“Have you made contact with your uncle?”

I placed my drink on the table. “Not yet.”

“Why not?”

“Thinking to wait until the ink dries on the paperwork before hounding him.”

His brow creased. “You think getting my money is hounding him.”

“No. But Cono is conniving. He won’t even tell me who my parents banked with, so I wanted to wait for you.”

“We’ll go tomorrow after my party.”

“Party?”

“I have a business event to attend and need you on my arm.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Another date?”

“Call it what you want.” He shrugged.
