“You deserve them. They’re almost as sweet as you.” He pushed his sunglasses down for a moment and winked, so she could see the striking green eyes that matched his shirt.

Sergeant Giovanni giggled like a much younger woman, and her cheeks flushed pink.

Liliana quirked her lips and rolled her human eyes. She was not overly experienced with dating, but even she had heard that line before.

“The old man in?” the handsome man in the sunglasses said. “We’ve got some business.”

“Yeah.” Sergeant Giovanni said. “The Colonel’s in a good mood too, William. If you want to sell something, now might be the time.”

The man, William apparently, chuckled. “I only move stuff around creatively. I have nothing to sell but my organizational genius.”

“Organizational genius sounds a lot better than Logistics Consultant. You should print new business cards.”

“An excellent suggestion, lovely lady. I just might.” He gave her a quick peck on the cheek before leaving her office.

Liliana wondered why her fourth eyes showed her Sergeant Giovanni’s boyfriend when she asked about Pete’s sword.

William went down a hallway to a larger office and knocked on the closed door.

“Come,” a deep voice said.

As he opened the door, Colonel Alexander Bennet’s tall form stood from behind the desk. He walked around to greet the newcomer. His uniform was impeccably pressed and spotless. A broad politician’s smile lit his face. “Ah, Mr. Eliot. I assume you wish to speak to me about the training operation next month.”

“Yes, of course, Colonel.” William Eliot closed the office door and strode forward. The tall, slender consultant pushed the more powerfully built colonel hard on the chest when they met. He all but slammed Colonel Bennet against the office wall, making medals and citations rattle in their frames.

The colonel allowed it, his smile broadening to something real before William Eliot’s mouth met his, devouring hungrily in a kiss that looked hot enough to lead somewhere they couldn’t go at a place of work.

Liliana’s eyes widened in surprise.

Oh.

She remembered now when she’d seen this vision before—the day she met Sergeant Giovanni. She warned her not to fall for the man with the silver rose since he desired another.

She could have used that advice herself. She remembered the warm tingle of the Fae prince’s lips touching her hand and how it had traveled, making her cheeks flush warm.

Alexander Bennet is already involved with someone.

For a moment, disappointment crushed the joy out of the sunny February day, surprising her with its intensity. She barely knew the handsome Fae prince.

But she’d seen inside Colonel Bennet’s deeper self and had not seen the love that glowed in Pete. Alexander Bennet was not committed to this man like Pete was to Ben.

Also, when he’d kissed her hand, Liliana had seen the spark of attraction in his eyes. Alexander Bennet desired her, or at least he wanted her to think he did.

She watched the two men’s passionate kiss with her head cocked to the side.

Perhaps she had been wrong to warn Sergeant Giovanni away. Perhaps William Eliot wanted both her and her commanding officer and was trying to win them both.

Liliana sighed, touched by a wistful wish that she could find herself in such a situation.

Her parents had been a happy triad, so she tended to consider that the ideal. But unlike her mothers, she was attracted only to men. Women didn’t interest her the same way. For her, a happy triad would involve two men who loved each other as well as her. But finding even one man who would be right for her was hard enough. Finding two such men, who also cared for each other, seemed far too much to ask of fate.

And yet, here were two men who desired each other, and at least one of them had also indicated interest in her.

They were both physically stunning men. Potentially, they could be exactly what she wanted, a more perfect match for herself than she ever thought to find. From the flirting chemistry she’d felt, Alexander Bennet wanted her, and clearly, from the steamy kiss she just witnessed, he also wanted William Eliot.

William Eliot was a complete unknown, though. Was he deceiving Sergeant Giovanni with his attentions to get closer to Colonel Bennet, or was he wooing both? Deciphering complex relationships was not her strong suit.

She wished to know more, especially about the man with the silver rose. William Eliot’s face shimmered as Liliana studied him.
