“What sort is that? The sort who isn’t planning to go down for someone else’s illegal activities?”

“The sort who doesn’t know when he’s overstayed his welcome.” He nods at the man without the scar on his face.

The man removes his phone from his jeans and taps on the screen.

I raise my hands. “Okay, I’m going.” He’s right; I can’t afford any more scrutiny when it comes to the law. I return to my SUV and climb inside.

I do a quick reconnaissance of the area, noting the security cameras. There’s no way I can enter the property without setting off alarms. Not without the equipment and the backup I don’t have. And I refuse to drag my brothers into this mess any more than they are right now.

Refuse to be the cause for them to end up on trial—like me.

The month after Lucas proposed to me goes by in a blur of wedding planning, dress fittings, photos for my social media account, creating pendants for an upcoming subscription box, taking care of Grams.

And talking all things wedding-related with Tuuli and Lucas’s mom.

Three days before the big day, I sit on Grams’s couch and log into my Instagram account. I’m greeted with a thousand new followers since I logged in yesterday morning. The photo of my pendant that I posted two days ago went viral.

But it’s not just that picture that has a ton of likes and comments. The romantic photos Kim took of Lucas and me have seen an uptick of social interactions.

And since my wedding countdown began a week ago, I’ve been getting a flood of comments wishing me and Lucas all the happiness on our wedding day. I’ve also seen an upswing in subscriptions for my boxes.

Everything is going perfectly.

So why do I have an uneasy feeling something’s about to go wrong?

“The place looks incredible.” Mom surveys Rose’s lush backyard, the colors golden in the early evening sunlight.

In the middle of the lawn, white chairs have been set in rows with tulle bows and burgundy flowers decorating the aisle seats. Dozens of small jars dangle from the lower branches of the oak tree, their tiny lights flickering like fireflies.

Six-year-old Simone would have once believed the lights were fairies. Her love for fairy tales was as great as her brother’s love of mythology.

Shit, what would Aiden say if he were alive?

I doubt he would have approved of us getting married. If he were Zeus, he would impale me with one of his lightning bolts.

“You did a great job with it,” I tell Mom.

“It was all Emily. That girl has an eye for details and aesthetics.”

I grin, unable to keep what I’m thinking off my face. “Don’t tell Kellan that.”

“Don’t tell me what?” my youngest brother asks, approaching us. Like Troy, Garrett, and myself, he’s wearing a royal-blue suit, a burgundy tie, and a small ivory rose fastened to the lapel.

Mom smiles at him. “That Emily did an incredible job organizing Lucas and Simone’s wedding. Especially since she only had a month to do it. She could go into business as a wedding coordinator.”

I cough back a laugh, smothering it with my hand. From what Simone told me, Emily hasn’t announced her plans yet.

A confused frown pinches Kellan’s eyebrows. “A wedding coordinator?”

“You know, the person who helps the bride and groom organize their big day,” Mom helpfully explains.
