‘You’re absolutely gorgeous, Tate.’ She winces as the words come out. He’s probably heard that from countless people over the years. Surely she could have come up with a more inventive way of telling him.

‘I am?’

‘You know you are. I’m sure enough people have told you.’

‘People blow smoke up my ass all the time. Doesn’t mean I take any of it seriously. No one I give a damn about has said that to me.’

‘Really?’

‘Yeah, really.’ He wraps his arm around her waist, pressing his chest to her back as he kisses the side of her neck. Chloe moans as his hand moves down her body.

‘Tate?’

‘Yeah.’

‘I want you inside me.’

‘Since you asked so nicely.’

When she finally manages to extract herself from him, it’s an hour later and her stomach is seriously complaining about the lack of food.

While he’s checking in with the rest of the band, Chloe brushes her wet hair then turns to face the enormous bed. There’s no way she’s leaving it like that for housekeeping to find. The pillows are on the floor and the sheet a tangled mess hanging over the side. As she does her best to make the bed, she looks over at her dress draped across the chair at the side of the room.

Last night had been incredible. She will never forget the feeling of taking Tate’s hand and stepping out of the car in front of all those cameras. The initial fear of the unknown had quickly disappeared with him by her side. Even when she was led away for a few minutes so he could get photos taken, she didn’t feel scared or intimidated. Everywhere she looked she saw familiar famous faces. And in the middle of it all was her Tate.

Watching him interact with the press, with the other celebrities, and having countless photos taken was surreal. It was like there was two sides to him. Seeing him in that environment last night, dressed the way he was... she couldn’t have been more proud of him. Or more attracted to him.

She knows he wasn’t looking forward to the evening. It was his first time in front of the world since he finished rehab. The fact he agreed to go in the first place was an achievement. Wining two awards was the affirmation he desperately needed. Hopefully, after last night, he won’t be so quick to second guess himself. He’s an incredible singer, songwriter, and performer. Nothing that’s happened since Christmas changed that. His confidence just needs to be built up again.

Tate steps out of the living room in his usual jeans and t-shirt. How the man can look equally good in a three-piece suit or jeans she’ll never know.

‘How are the guys?’

‘Yeah. Good. Pippa has a sore head. Not surprised with the amount she was putting away. Think she was making up for the rest of us not drinking.’

Chloe doesn’t comment. She doesn’t know Pippa and it’s not her place to pass judgement. As much as she wants to.

Tate has a problem with alcohol. Pippa knew that. While the rest of the table had shied away from the copious amounts of free drink being offered, Pippa happily drank glass after glass of champagne. Tate hadn’t been exaggerating the issue between Luke’s girlfriend and him. Pippa didn’t hold back on the dirty looks being thrown across the table.

It was actually a relief that she hadn’t acknowledged Chloe’s existence. Apart from glaring at Tate while she drank her expensive champagne, there was nothing from the woman.

As the night went on, Chloe couldn’t help but feel sorry for Luke. Pippa and her mood completely overshadowed the poor guy all night.

‘You hungry?’

Chloe nods enthusiastically. ‘Absolutely.’

‘We’re out of time to go anywhere. Our ride will be here in an hour or so. Pick what you want from room service.’ He pulls out his phone and grimaces. ‘I better take this. It’s my mum.’

Chloe peruses the menu as Tate has what sounds like a conversation with his mother he’s not winning. He ends the call and looks across at Chloe.

‘Is everything okay?’

‘Depends on your definition of okay. She was just quizzing me about you.’

‘Me? You hadn’t told her we’re going out?’

He shakes his head. ‘Nope. I’m sorry about this, but she’s insisting we meet up tonight for a quick dinner thing. She doesn’t take no for an answer. Ever. Could you spare a few hours?’
