"Don't you want to know about Wane?" Tisiphone asked Haley in her rough, snarling voice.

I froze. We all froze.

I forgot to breathe for three seconds, and only sucked in air when my lungs howled in demand. Goosebumps rippled down my arms at the look on my mate's face, the back of my neck tingling.

"We all visited him," the Fury went on, not realising her life was numbered to minutes—or seconds. "He sang so sweetly for us. Isn't that right, sisters?"

Tisiphone turned her head, her dog face split by a wicked grin. Bad move to turn your back on an opponent as angry as my Haley.

Alecto laughed, her snakes rippling around her face. "His screams were more beautiful than any song."

The air exploded with enough power that I stumbled back a step, Wynvail falling into me with a curse. Haley's daggers erupted deep blood red as she drew the second, and scissored both around Tisiphone's throat before she could even finish laughing at her sister's vile remark.

Her canine head tumbled to the floor, landing with a thud on the stone. Black blood splashed up from the impact. I swore the whole Labyrinth froze.

Haley kicked Tisiphone’s body until it collapsed to the floor and advanced on the other Furies without a single word. My heart skipped a beat.

"God-killers," Megaera whispered, her eyes wide and her claws clicking together at a rapid pace. She was nervous. She should be.

Alecto's snakes went still, her wrinkled face frozen in shock as she stared at her fallen sister. "God-killers," she agreed, darting a glance at Haley's blades as my mate stalked back into the Labyrinth, only murder on her mind.

Alecto turned and ran, racing past Wynvail and I, fear bleaching her face of its colour. Haley bared her teeth, animal fury twisting her beautiful features as she drew back her arm and hurled a long, wavy dagger at the Fury. It wasn't designed for throwing, but whatever magic lived inside it now aimed it true. It sank to the hilt in Alecto's back, toppling her to the ground in an instant. She didn’t move, didn’t let out a final gasp. Dead.

Megaera spun, staring at her dead sisters, knowing she was next.

"You don't need to do this," she hissed.

"Oh, but I want to," Haley breathed, blood dripping off the knife she passed into her right hand, the movement graceful and deadly. Butterflies danced in my belly.

I sent a long boa across the floor, coiling its long body behind Megaera. Trapping her. When she gave Haley a sneering laugh that failed to hide her fright and turned, planning to run, the boa rammed its solid body into her legs. She hit the ground with a satisfying cry, and my bloodlust throbbed higher.2

The Fury kicked up her wings, trying to fly away, but my snake coiled around her legs and kept her grounded. The expression on Haley’s face could have frozen lava as she reared her blades back and sank both in the Fury’s chest.

The light instantly left Megaera’s eyes, and a shudder rushed down my spine. Ordinary demons shouldn't be able to kill a Fury. But my Haley wasn't ordinary; she was marked for greatness, and the great-granddaughter of a titaness.

She didn't just kill Megaera; she loosed herself upon the woman like a Fury herself, driving her knives into her body over and over before she moved to Alecto and finally Tisiphone.

Wynvail and I were silent, awestruck.

She was breathing hard by the time she drew back, the Furies mutilated messes on the ground.

"Shit, Sugarplum," Harvey rasped, breaking the silence with a smile. "Remind me never to get on your bad side."

She'd killed three Furies.

They called her daggers god-killers.

But could she kill a titan?

Harvey

If Wynvail was leading us into another trap, Haley would kill him. Or maybe Kai would get there first. Emlyn wanted to beat him to a pulp, too, judging by the heavy slash of his brows over his blue eyes and the shifty glare he kept shooting at my brother.
