“Are you gonna send him that text?” A whisper fills my ears. Has my sister been reading our exchange?

“Melissa!” I shriek, and someone in the row behind me hushes us, and my father gives us the stink eye. My phone slips in my hand, and I grab it before it crashes to the ground.

“What?” she says in a low voice. “You’re more entertaining than Dad.”

“I thought you were worried about my soul’s fate.”

Her green eyes follow my father’s movements, but I know my sister’s attention is on me. “Maybe I’m old, Ella, but I’m always ready for some hot tea.”

My sister hates gossip, and when I was in the eye of the storm, she was ready to shut some mouths up to defend me.

David:You have me so hard, Melanie.

Take note, this is my promise. Tonight, all your fantasies will be fulfilled.

“Fuck,” I whisper, but it’s loud enough because my sister’s eyes and mine lock on the screen. After a few seconds, I hear her chuckling. “Shut up, Melissa. This is all your fault.”

“Well, little sister.” She gives me a smirk. “Seems like you will be thanking me later. I can’t wait to hear the whole story.”

Me:That message wasn’t meant for you to read it.

Forget it.

Living in the same house as David will be a lot of temptation. Now that he has this information, he will use it to push me. Against the door… or maybe the wall…

David:Not a chance in hell.

Tonight you will be mine.

I pocket my phone without adding another word. There is no need. Both of us know I’m already his.

David and Davi are easy to find. They are at the entry of the tent. I don’t know why the way he smiles at me surprises me. The heat of his gaze stops me for a moment. Everything becomes real. I can almost hear his voice in the shadows, whispering dirty words while he moves inside me.

“It’s late!” Davi cries from his father’s thick arms as soon as I reach where they are waiting for me.

“What about, hi, Mommy. How are you? Eh?” I say while tricking his tummy.

“You’re late,” he accuses me again. Davi has been over the moon with our move. Surprisingly, my whole family supports us. My father didn’t bat a single eyelash when I told him about the house David rented, and my sister did the same.

What happened? The heck if I know, but I’m too happy with their reactions to argue.

David comes even closer and kisses the corner of my mouth. The touch is like peppering gunpowder over a growing fire. “You’re late,” he whispers, just for my ears. “I’ve waited for you for four years, Melanie.”

Goosebumps erupt all over my body. The hours until Davi goes to sleep will be like eons.

???

Davi doesn’t stop chatting while David drives easily on the curvy road to the top of the mountain. As usual around here, it’s windy. The gravel entryway to the rental property is fully lined with oaks, and the sun pours through the trees’ leaves. David’s hand rests on my leg while he drives masterfully. I lower my window, happy to enjoy the warm air, my hair flying everywhere, and I can’t help but look at him smiling.

“Home, sweet home,” David announces while he parks his SUV in front of a beautiful wooden home painted green with a burgundy door. The front lawn is full of yellow flowers and manzanita trees. The air smells like summer here in the Southern California mountains.

“Daddy, come to get me,” Davi calls from the back seat. He has already unfastened the belts of his booster seat and is jumping up and down.

Honestly, I hope all this excitement wears him out early tonight. As my sister said, I’m going straight to hell. The reason is very simple, someone should award me with ‘the worst mother of the world’ title because I want to get very dirty with daddy.

After a minute, I meet David and his sidekick at the front porch as he ceremoniously opens the door for us.

“Welcome home, my lady.” He lets me in first. The house is small, but they did a great job with the interior design. The living room is full of sunrays from the French doors on one side of the space. Beyond that, the dining room and the kitchen can be seen. Warm woods on the floor, mixed with the walls painted in an inviting shade of white, and the homey furniture really works here. Even if my personal items aren’t here, I’ll be happy to call this house my home for the upcoming weeks.
