“Yeah. I’m sure,” he rasps. “We have all the time in the world, now. It’s just you and me.”

My heart flutters in my chest as I stare up at him. A year ago, I was fighting with Margot about being assigned a bodyguard. Thought it would be a total invasion of my privacy, and that I’d never get a moment for myself. Not only is Xavian amazing about respecting my boundaries, I couldn’t imagine life without him.

A soft thump at the end of the bed catches our attention, and we look to see our black, fuzzy, eight-year-old rescue cat making his way toward us for his evening snuggles.

“Well, just me, and you, and Milo,” he corrects himself. Milo forces himself between us and head boops Xavian first, then me. I run my hand down my cat’s back and smile as he starts to purr.

“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” I murmur.

My star has never been dimmer, yet I’ve never been happier.
