My hand clenched around the water bottle as I stood in the backyard, watching how Kenz interacted with Hayden.

I don’t like it.

I’d scoped out a wonderful stretch of swampland not too far away, the sort of place where a short boat ride would ensure that bodies were never found.

Of course, with how large these men are, it would take two trips to get them all out there.I’d passed a small Mom and Pop hardware store that sold concrete blocks to weigh down the bodies, and crocodiles would do the rest of the work for me.

“Stop thinking about where to bury them.” Sasha wrapped her arm around my side, cuddling in close to me.

“I would never think about burying them.”

“Ah, so this time it was the swamp, huh?”

I peered down and into her face, taken aback again by how she could so casually say such a thing. From Nem that would have been normal, but Sasha was so much sweeter, and she hated the thought of anyone hurt.

Sometimes I worried I’d jaded her, that I’d somehow tainted her. However, when she leaned against me, I couldn’t bring myself to regret a moment of my time with her.

“What do you think of them?” I asked.

“I think they care about her. You can tell just by the way they look at her. In fact, I’d go so far as to say they love her even if they’re fighting it.”

“They’d better fight it if they want to keep their hands,” I growled out.

Sasha chuckled. “Who would have thought you’d be a dad cleaning his shotgun when his daughter’s boyfriend stops by? It’s surprisingly charming.”

“If only I was dealing with a horny teenage boy instead of four full-grown men. A kid would be a lot easier to scare off, after all.” I let out a long sigh, trying to ease the frustration inside me. I’d come when Sasha had pushed me, when I hadn’t managed a good night’s sleep since seeing Kenz in that alleyway. Instead, my brain had just kept working about what was going on with her, whether she was okay, or if she needed help.

Eventually, Sasha had insisted we visit, and I’d purposelynotmentioned it to Nem. She didn’t need to know about my trip, because it would only make her want to come all the more.

“I don’t like this,” I admitted.

“I know. We came all this way, though, and don’t you think it’s a missed opportunity if you walk away now?”

I turned my head to look at her, unsure of her point.

Sasha leaned up on her tiptoes and pressed a soft quick kiss to my lips. “I’m going to go in for a little girl time. Seems like if you want to get to know someone, you need to sit down and actuallytalkto them, don’t you think?”

With that, she left, heading inside and reminding me again why I fell for her.

She was far smarter than I was, at the end of the day.

Within a few minutes, the men came outside, one by one, their gazes finding me as if they’d had the same thought.

Which meant I needed to be an adult and deal with reality.

My youngest had fallen in love, and now I had to make itperfectlyclear to these assholes what I’d do if they dared to break her heart.

Tor

I sure as hell never figured I’d sit down with the Fox like this. Then again, given his reputation, few people who got this close to him survived the encounter.

And if anyone had told me he was some loving father, I’d have thought them crazy. Yet, the more I saw him interact with Kenz, the more obvious that became, and it was theonlyreason I would sit with him like this.

“First, let me say that I’m no fool. I’ve been in this life a long time, have heard people tell me more lies than you can imagine. If you try to bullshit me, I’ll know, so I suggest you don’t.”

Char went to speak, hiding securely behind his fake smile.
