His eyes darkened. “If you knew all the things I want to do to you, you would blush a lot more.”

I felt my cheeks darken. “Maybe not,” I lied. “Maybe I’ve done it all before.”

“Have you?” He quirked an eyebrow. “Who do I have to kill?”

I laughed.

“They must not have realized you were mine,” he said, his tone still light. He took my hand. “But I promise you, Kennedy. Everyone is going to know who you belong to.”

“Only if you belong to me too.”

“Of course I do.”

“I shouldn’t have you walk me all the way home.”

“It would be a bad idea,” he agreed. “But your crazy frienddidmemorize my face.”

“For the sketch artist.”

“For when I kidnap you.”

I laughed. “After you kidnap me, are you going to take me to Paris?”

“Definitely.”

And maybe there was a part of me that did want to be pulled out of my boring, ordinary life to be stolen away by the most interesting, confident man I’d ever met.

Because I let him walk me to my door.

As we stood in front of my crappy apartment building, I felt tongue tied. There was a part of me that wanted to invite him up, that wanted the night to never end.

But then there was still a part of me that hadn’t lost my mind when I met Greyson.

“If you plan to kiss me goodnight,” I said lightly, despite what talking about a kiss did to my cheeks, “I should warn you now it probably won’t be very good.”

“Why do you say that?”

“I haven’t…kissed anyone,” I said. “At least, not that I remember.”

I stumbled over the words. I hadn’t told him yet about my amnesia. Maybe I should before things went any further.

“I bet you’ll be good at it,” he told me confidently. “I had another girl’s first kiss a long time ago, and even if she was new to it, it was still…amazing.”

“Are you really talking to me about other girls?”

“No,” he said, then added with a smile, “Just trying to get you into the competitive spirit before you kiss me.”

“A little healthy competition?”

“Exactly.”

I held out my arms for a hug. “I think you’ve scared me out of it.”

“There will be plenty of other dates,” he said so confidently that it made me smile.

“Will there?”

When he hugged me, he felt so warm and solid. It was the most comforting thing I’d ever felt, and I melted into his hug.
