“Dad!” I swung around to Candy’s voice as she looked at her father angrily.

She came down the rest of the stairs and stood next to me. Wrapping her in my arms I whispered into her ear, “You were supposed to stay in our room, Candy Cane. I see we’re going to have to learn the consequences of our actions.”

She smirked at me as I kissed her cheek before she turned her attention back to her father. “I was taken by the Rios Cartel in revenge for your betrayal. Not because of who I was but because of you. So how come it wasn’t you that came to my rescue? Instead, these men who are your enemies saved me. It didn’t matter to them that I was your daughter. Because this man loved me, his brothers did everything they could and saved me before I was raped and sold into slavery. Where were you?”

“It was taking time, Candy. There is paperwork and warrants that are needed to be obtained. You know that,” Randy Hall tried to explain to his daughter.

Her sneer as she rolled her eyes was a thing of beauty and turned my blood flow south. “I call bullshit, Dad. Two years ago your deputy was held hostage. Within an hour you had the place he was at surrounded. He was rescued and all of the kidnappers were dead. I was held for hours. Beaten regularly. Where were you?

“So keep your judgmental ass away from me and away from this club. They are better men than you will ever be.” Candy turned back around and climbed back up the stairs towards our room as we all watched her.

Saint smirked at the Sheriff as he said coldly, “You heard the woman. She’s under our protection now and is part of our family. I would leave before some of her brothers take it personally that you’re here.”

Saint nodded at me as he walked to the bar to get a drink. I watched as the Sheriff stomped out of the clubhouse. The man had some balls coming here like that. I quickly followed my woman up to our room where I found her sitting on the edge of the bed, tears falling. Sitting down next to her, I pulled her onto my lap and held her. It was never easy to deal with betrayal from a parent.

“I know it hurts, Candy Cane. You let all that pain out. That way you can soak up all of my love for you and fill in all of those cracks. You are mine and I will love you to the day I die and beyond.”

“Beyond?”

“Covering my basis cuz if there is anything after death, I know for a fact I’ll be spending it with you. Not even the big guy can deny that.” Candy’s giggle was all that I needed as I held her tight. What she didn’t know was how serious I was. This woman was my everything and always would be.

Epilogue

Candy

I looked out the windows of our living room, enjoying the beautiful view before me. My life had changed so completely in the months since Ezra and I had found each other. We quickly realized that we needed more space than one room in the clubhouse. So, Ezra built us a beautiful cottage on the property behind the clubhouse.

We still hadn’t heard anything from the Rios Cartel and sometimes I found myself worried that they would strike when my guard was down. It was hard to live in fear constantly so I instead placed my faith in my man and in my family. The Dragon Skulls MC had my back. I hadn’t heard from my father again but that was his loss and I refused to waste any more energy on the man.

Strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind me. “My beautiful Candy Cane, what’s wrong?” His lips on my neck made me smile as I relaxed in his arms.

“Nothing important. Just thinking about people of the past is all. I hope my father can find peace in the man that he is and I hope that one day he will realize what he’s given up.”

“Such a beautiful heart,” Ezra murmured as he held me close. “I hope so, too. Even only to ease your heart, baby. We stood there for a while appreciating the sunset together. As the sky darkened, I watched as my handsome man dropped to his knees and kissed my little round belly. “Hello, my little bean. Grow big and strong so that one day we can shower all of our love on you.”

Tears filled my eyes as he spoke to our growing child. How I loved this man, this beautiful dark hero. No matter what the future held, I knew with him I would be loved completely. With that kind of love, nothing was too mountainous to overcome.
