“So very chivalrous of you, Mr Sullivan.”

“I’m a confident man, not a chivalrous one. You’ve been eyeing me up over this basket for the last ten minutes.”

Crap. “I’ve not.”

“No?” He reaches over and feeds me a piece of cheese.

“Hmm.”

Lance licks his lips, watching me. “Taste good?”

I nod, and he reaches for another piece. As I open my mouth, multiple pieces of cheese miss my mouth, two cubes falling into the front of my dress.

“Oh no,” Lance mutters dramatically.

I chuckle as he moves the basket and pulls me closer.

He reaches for the front of my dress, peering inside. He looks up at me, a mischievous look on his face. “Don’t worry, sunshine. I’m going to find them.”

I tilt my head, my attention caught on his green eyes in this light.

How can anyone be this good-looking?

“Chivalrously,” he starts, and I frown. “Lance plants his face into the slit in Scarlet’s chest.” Grinning, his head dips. “Lips as gentle as silk, they explore, hunting for the lost cheese.”

I giggle, trying to get away. “You’re an idiot,” I tell him, running my hands through his hair as his mouth slows, matching his promise.

“If this was one of your books…” He runs his nose up my throat, and my breath catches. “What would happen next?”

His hand flattens on my waist, fingers grazing the underside of my bikini top through my dress. “She’d reach for the cheese knife and plunge it through his heart.”

“A plot twist.” He chuckles, nipping at my jaw.

“Uh-huh.”

His large palm dips low, grazing my thigh before slipping under my dress.

I shake my head at him.

The moment he finds the piece of cheese at my waist, his eyes spark. He pulls it out and eats it.

“It’s good, isn’t it?”

He shrugs. “There’s plenty of other things I’d rather eat.”

“You’re being dirty.” I push his shoulder, and he catches my hand, smiling as he pulls me to straddle his lap.

“Sorry. I forget it’s our first date.” He brushes his thumb over my lower lip, eyes lingering on the spot. “I should get to know you before I go putting my hand up your dress.”

I pop a brow. “I’d say you know me better than anyone else.”

“I do.” I shift on his lap, and he shakes his head, grabbing my hips and grinding me harder. “I do, but I want to give you the best first date you’ve ever had. I can’t leave anything on the table for when the next guy comes along.”

“The next guy.” I chuckle.

“I know.” He grins as if finding it equally amusing. “You’re fucking mine forever.” He licks at his lips, proud, then tips his chin. “Aren’t you, Scarlet?”

I lean over him, my hair shielding us from the rest of the world. It’s just me and him. “I never said that.”
